Story
An awful lot has happened in the last 100 years or so. In fact, when you look at how much went on in the 20th century, it's amazing it didn't take longer than that. And what have we learnt? A few obvious lessons include: megalomaniac men with moustaches in charge of countries tend to turn out to be bad; anyone who thinks they can explain let alone sort out the Middle East is wrong; France simply cannot be relied upon; America may or may not be the cause of everything good and bad in the world (depending on who you ask).

Story
In an increasingly divided society, Iain examines why we've all become so disrespectful and intolerant. Using experiences from his career in politics and the media, he says it doesn't have to be this way and suggests how we can all emerge from tribalism and division and become more respectful to each other and those who govern us. It is a book that is optimistic about the fundamental decencies embedded in human nature and uses deeply personal anecdotes to explain why we can look forward in a positive way to a better life both in personal and material terms.

Banking on It is the firsthand account of one woman's quest to rebuild Britain's broken banking system. After a lengthy career at the top of some of Britain's leading banks, Anne Boden had become disillusioned with the status quo - the financial crash had broken trust in the whole sector, but there seemed to be little appetite to make the most of emerging technologies to revolutionise customer experience. Increasingly frustrated with the inertia within the industry, she decided to shake things up herself by doing something totally radical - setting up her own bank.

For a long time, I felt that I couldn't write this book. At first, I didn't think I'd lived enough, then life got busy and filled with distractions. In more recent years, there was always a very painful consideration - I knew where it would eventually have to go. I have recently decided that the truth is the only thing that can set me free. The truth has taken a long time to make itself clear to me, but now is the right time to share it, all of it. Television and broadcasting has been a part of my DNA for as long as I can remember.

Pat Sharp is a man out of time. For those of a certain generation, he is an iconic figure synonymous with good fun, great hair and excess gunge. For others, he's just that bloke with a mullet. Fame is a fickle beast and, since the cancellation of Fun House in 1999 ('Just ten years into its run, when it was finally finding its feet'), Pat has become a reclusive figure, only emerging from his splendid isolation to pop up on things like I'm a Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Come Dine with Me. Until now.

As divisive as he is beguiling, as misunderstood as he is scrutinised, Boris Johnson is a singular figure. Many of us think we know his story well. His ruthless ambition was evident from his insistence, as a three-year-old, that he would one day be 'world king'. Eton and Oxford prepared him well for a frantic career straddling the dog-eat-dog worlds of journalism and politics. His transformation from bumbling stooge on Have I Got News for You to a triumphant mayor of London was overshadowed only by his colourful personal life, brimming with affairs, scandals and transgressions.

Summary
It is estimated that there are more than a million professional voice actors in the world. It is by nature, a largely hidden profession but nonetheless is one that annually generates more than $4.5 billion globally.
Voice Over Man is a fascinating insight into the life of one of the world’s most prolific voiceover artists. It’s a frank and very personal account of his career. Not in the full glare of the spotlight, but in the dark spaces behind the scenes that the public never gets to see. From barking like a dog on pet food commercials - to his universally recognised work on the world’s biggest television shows - The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent together with countless video games and live events - he recounts the highs and lows of his deeply unconventional career. If you liked The Larry Sanders Show, W1A, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Toast Oo London - you’ll love this!
Unlike Kleenex or Clorox, Peter Dickson is not a household name, so while he may not be very effective at or indeed remotely interested in cleaning under your rim or around your U-Bend, his voice is heard in every household in the United Kingdom and beyond; every hour of every day, of every year. From selflessly lending his vocal talent to radio and TV commercials, video games, documentaries, radio programmes, interactive telephone systems, corporate audio and video productions, game shows and family-friendly TV broadcast entertainment behemoths, he is quite literally all over the ruddy place!
This is a book which will appeal to anyone who has ever wondered what actually goes on behind the scenes on TV and radio. It’s a frank and very personal account of a life lived in the media. Not in the full glare of the spotlight on the shiny floor in front of the camera, but in the dark spaces the public never get to see; the voice booths, control rooms, offices, dressing rooms and dimly lit corridors backstage.
Peter Dickson has been a professional voiceover artist for 45 years. He has worked in all sectors of the entertainment industry and alongside many of its biggest stars. He has been the voice of more than 200 TV series - many of them multi-award-winning - and the promo voice for more than 60 TV channels. He has acted on more than 30 of the world’s top-selling AAA game titles and has voiced more than 30,000 TV and radio commercials. He founded and co-owns GravyfortheBrain.com - the world’s biggest online voiceover training school and mentoring resource for established and aspiring voice talent. He also founded and co-owns ReAttendance.com - the global virtual events platform. He has an honours degree in psychology, is a member of British Actors Equity and the Chartered Institute of Journalists and is understandably, ever so slightly knackered.
Critic reviews
“Peter Dickson is a legend in the industry. It’s about time we heard from His Master’s Voice.” (Hugh Bonneville - stage and screen actor)
“Peter Dickson is a show-business legend.” (David Walliams - comedian and author)

Absolutely glorious! Laugh-out-loud brilliant
Anyone with even a passing interest in TV and radio entertainment has heard his voice often before, but who knew what Britain's best-belovèd bigmouth thought of it all once the mic was switched off? Who had any idea how he started building such a varied, rewarding and fun career? I loved every single page.
Voice Over Man is one of those books you don't want for it to finish. Beautifully and cheekily written. It makes you laugh out loud and it sends tears to your eyes. Mr. Dickson's, +40 years long story is incredible. Real to bits, full of incredible individuals, funny and also very motivating, whether you a matured VO or just putting your first steps on this path. But of course you don't have to be a VO to enjoy this book. It is after all a fantastic autobiography of a huge hearted gentleman. To say it is worth reading would be a slight understatement.

A wonderful insight into a world that not many know, by the best in the business. What a legend.
I happened across Peters book having been a member of his globally recognised company, Gravy for the Brain. A wonderful resource for new and veteran voiceovers. This exciting and extremely entertaining tale of Peters beginnings as a Voiceover artist is a must listen. From the great stores at working with the BBC, and to getting in trouble with the then PM David Cameron and the rich stories of entertainers past and living. Please listen, you won’t be disappointed!
