About this listen

I work alone. I may be the best thief in the world, but no one will ever know a single thing about me. Well, almost no one.

A lifetime ago I had a mentor, Angela. She taught me how to be a criminal, how to run a heist. And now, six years after she vanished and left me high and dry on a job in Kuala Lumpur, she’s sent me an SOS.

Or at least I think it’s her. If it is, then I've got to go. I owe her that much. So soon I'll be on a plane to Macau, either to see a friend or walk into a trap. Or both. But that's the way I like it. Sometimes the only thing that makes me happy is risking my life.

I had been looking forward to this since finishing Hobbs' Ghostman, a really exciting heist-gone-wrong novel. My only real complaint was the over explaining of ever single tiny little detail which, while showed off the authors knowledge and impressive level of research, grated after a while.

The sequel offers the same breakneck excitement and what feels like an inside look at the life of a master heister, but suffers from that same problem, perhaps more so,especially if you read the first book as there is a lot of recap. I guess that is Roger Hobbs style though and he does manage to keep excitement high throughout. It feels like a slick Oceans 11 style movie rather than a grittier Heat, for example.

The narrator is so so, but plenty listenable to and despite the issues, I hope there will be another in the series.

Interesting information contained within this story, though the ending a little weak I’m sorry to say.
