Summary

La ventiseienne Jean Louise Finch - "Scout" - torna a Maycomb, in Alabama, da New York per visitare l'anziano padre, Atticus. Riaffiorano ricordi dell'infanzia felice passata a giocare con il fratello Jem e con l'amico Dill, sotto lo sguardo protettivo di Calpurnia, la cuoca nera.

Ma nella cittadina molte cose sono cambiate. La grande casa dell'infanzia non esiste più, l'anziana Calpurnia è tornata a vivere con i suoi e Atticus sembra essere diventato un'altra persona e contraddire tutto quello che le aveva insegnato con il suo esempio.
