One of the Financial Times's 'Fifty people who shaped the decade'.

"The biggest sports scandal the world has ever seen."

In 2015, Russia’s Anti-Doping Centre was suspended by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) following revelations of an elaborate state-sponsored doping programme at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Involving a nearly undetectable steroid delivery system known as ‘Duchesse cocktail’, tampering and switching of urine samples and a complex state-sanctioned cover-up, the programme was masterminded by Grigory Rodchenkov.

The Rodchenkov Affair tells the full, unadulterated story that was first glimpsed in Bryan Fogel’s award-winning documentary and still continues to captivate and shock the world. Charting the author’s childhood growing up under the Iron Curtain, his first encounter with doping as a 22-year-old student athlete at Moscow State University, and his subsequent career working for the Soviet Olympic Committee, this breathtakingly candid journey reveals a rigged system of flawed individuals, brazen deceit and impossible moral choices.

Lying Liars and the Liars That Tell Them!

I hadn't heard of the documentary Icarus so, when I watched it in Netflix, I was astonished by it and the protagonists in it.

This audiobook gives a first hand account of the story behind that documentary into the biggest sports doping the world is ever likely to see. I consider that it's told with honesty and in minute (and sometimes very technical) detail, and not without detriment to the author himself on occasion.

A fantastic, shocking and sometimes depressing account of the lengths that athletes, their coaches, their national organisations and even their States and leaders will go to, to win-at-all-costs.

As you'll gather, I highly recommend listening to this audiobook.

Fascinating

I'd seen the film Icarus a few times but this gives a brilliant account of the lengths that Russia went to in order to achieve a highly sophisticated and elaborate doping regime. Dr Rodchenkov is a brave and honest man who hides no blame on his own part in this system but has paid a heavy personal cost to get the truth out. Brilliant.

Excellent background to Icarus

Gives a great background to the documentary Icarus. Would be interesting if they did an extended version of Icarus with this additional story.

New light on doping allegations at Beijing 2022

A very interesting read, couldnt stop until I finished. Gives new light to the doping allegations at Beijing and the banning of Russia at sports events. Icarus documentary is a good compliment to the book and equally well done and disturbing. A must-read!!

Truth bomb

Enjoyed the whole story! It reads like a criminal drama, and is very shocking to find out what sports and doping control looks from the inside.
