About this listen

Deaf child welfare officer Holly Summers 'hears' by her amazing talent for lip-reading , a talent the Portland, Oregon, police are very happy to call upon in difficult criminal investigations.

Using her unique gift to help the police investigate the recent disappearances of a string of women, little does Holly suspect that one of the enemies she's made in her day job - an occupational hazard - has vowed a supernatural vengeance on her, and the horror begins when the one person Holly is living for is targeted: her precious daughter....

Editor reviews

Holly Summers is a child welfare officer in Portland, Oregon, who moonlights for the local police department using her skills as a lip-reader (she also happens to be deaf). But while Holly is helping the police investigate a rash of disappearances, an angry father from one of her cases puts a curse on her that threatens the one thing she loves most: her daughter. Performer Suzy James' tones are honeyed and smooth here, and she does an excellent job creating separate voices for each character. Fans of supernatural and psychological thrillers are likely to enjoy the ride.

Loved it, fantastic twisting story Masterton at his best. Great writing and brilliantly narrated

Not to be missed

Took a chance on thus, my first Graham Masterton book. I really enjoyed it. I have listern to lots of audio books while working my 5 hour shift. This definitely kept me interested. It was the deaf part that interested me as my son wears two hearing aids. But the story alone kept me invested. Without looking back at the other reviews I am wondering if the poor reviews are from men?? Anyway I enjoyed it enough to listern to another by Graham Masterton.

Kept me invested, something a little but different

This is the 4th GM novel I’ve listened to in a week! He writes fantastically and definitely worth getting these in your library. I’ve come to learn though there’s never a happy ending in his stories and bracing myself for it in the next one I listen to!

Brilliant, but the ending….

I was apprehensive about reading a shorter story, but I’m glad I did! I’ve read all of Graham’s horrors, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The story builds and grows until the final dramatic climax.

Thoroughly enjoyable

There have been a lot of negative reviews of this novel and a few that provide spoilers as to the end (don’t do that people, no matter what you think of the story).
I often find Masterton’s story’s readable/listenable but often absurd. “Unspeakable” I enjoyed, in my opinion Holly would have made a better series than Sissy Sawyer.

One of Masterton’s better offerings in my opinion
