What a lovely tale! It is a gentle and surprisingly funny tale of country life in fictional Wessex. Some sections are so funny it's practically a farce.

I really enjoyed it. Robert Hardy's narration is very energetic with strong accents which may make it hard to understand for non native English speakers.

There's much less drama than in Thomas Hardy's later novels and lots of lovely pastoral fun.

A humorous pastoral romance

Robert hardy had no feeling for the rhythm of the words and read far too quickly as though in a rush. His Dorset accents were terrible and very shrill. Hard to listen to at times .

I loved the characters and way of life depicted. Left me wanting to follow the new couples story.

Robert Hardy wasn't the best narrator as I didn't believe his accent at all.

Weird accent
