First published serially in an abolitionist periodical in 1851, Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin, once compiled, went on to become the best-selling novel of the 19th century, considered by many to have served as a vital force behind the anti-slavery movement and the U.S. Civil War.

Voice actor Jim Roberts strikes a balance between gravity and colloquialism in his performance of this iconic work, engaging listeners in in the tale of Tom's trials and tribulations when he's sold down the river and Stowe's scathing indictment of the slave trade.

Really struggled to continue especially at the beginning but I'm glad I did.. Did not like narrator at all.

A truly magnificent audio book. I bought the book because of my interest in the American civil war. Abraham Lincoln is alleged to have said to the Author "So you are the woman who started this war" when she was introduced to him. The author decided to write the book after it became illegal to help escaped slaves find freedom in America.
Her understanding of the horror and injustice of slavery is remarkable. She questions how can a civilised christian country and especially the southern churches support slavery.
The book is very moving and touching especially when slavery is seen through the eyes of a child.
I had known of the book for years but never read it.
The book is fast paced and had me listening till the early hours of the morning.
wow what a book. Please buy it you will not regret it
