Well, if you're the stubborn and pragmatic captain in Typhoon you go full steam ahead right for the massive storm. Veteran narrator Jim Roberts gives an earnest performance, planting listeners right on the deck of the Nan-Shan, as Captain MacWhirr and his sailors try their best to keep their wits and their ship above water. This audiobook is another great addition to the highly celebrated canon of Joseph Conrad.
Summary
Typhoon is the story of an old steamer and a veteran captain. The captain is normally calm and in control but the ship's sudden envelopment by a typhoon brings out both the best characteristics and the worst of the captain and his crew. This story is a penetrating look at the human spirit in the face of disaster - a recurring theme in Conrad's works.
