Summary

After a brief visit to the Blighted Lands in hopes of recovering something useful from Shadye's Dark Fortress, Emily returns to Whitehall for her fourth year, bracing herself for the exams that will determine her future. But as she resumes her education, she discovers that the shadows of the past are hanging over the school. A teacher wants to break her, some of her friends are acting oddly, and, worst of all, a boy intends to court her.

But as she struggles to come to terms with her own past, she discovers a plot to kill her and a deadly threat that may destroy the entire school...and a fight she cannot win but dares not lose.

less neoliberal propoganda than usual

another relatively bland offering from Christopher Nuttall. don't labour so much on imposing victorian American ideals on yet another aboriginal people but there is still a lot of American imperialism and white privelege crap

Just okay.

Well there is finally some growth for the main character. But these books need to be sold on groups of 2 or 3 together. 1 alone is just not worth the price or credit.

series keeps getting better and better

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Because of all the twists and on audio you have to listen to every word and not just gloss over a paragraph

What was one of the most memorable moments of Trial by Fire?

Void at the end

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Suprise at the reason for the combat battle

Any additional comments?

If you enjoy magic with a bit of teenage drama in it with twists and turns, this is the series for you.

Loved It!

I was skeptical at 1st but then as soon as I read my 1st book...I feel in love with the series.
It's hard not to imagine what you would remember from History class to implement knew ideas in a foreign world.
Great listen.
Narrator is amazing by the way. I absolutely love the attitude she puts out on occasion. hahaha!

Incredible and sad

Emily's fame increases every year, as her enemies. However, in this story, Emily's actions has dramatic consequences ... It's a wonderful book, although with an ending that I found sad, though appropriate.

Waste of a series

This series just gets less and less for young adults, and more like Nuttall's adult content books. I've already had to apologize to some neighbors for recommending the series to their kids. What a waste of time; such trash

Harry Potter but not.

Any additional comments?

So far this series has been very enjoyable listen. Schooled in Magic has a lot of parallels to Harry Potter, but has a new take on the magic school plot line.Over all i can appreciate the writers style and composure of the book series.(thus far) The author has intentionally connected plot threads from previous books, the charters develop with in the story arch, and there are some unexpected twists through out the series. One of the main characteristics that i appreciate is that most twists are for shadowed, there isn't a pin drop revelation where the charter make outrageous connections that leaves you saying, "really you got this from ... nothing." But putting my personal pet peeves aside. I would recommend this book to any young or young at heart listeners.
