Summary

This is your wake-up call to resist the Hustle culture and embrace the slowness of Jesus.

Our culture makes constant demands of us: Do more. Accomplish more. Buy more. Post more. Be more.

In following these demands, we have indeed become more: More anxious. More tired. More hurt. More depressed. More frantic.

What we are doing isn't working!

In a society where hustle is the expectation, busyness is the norm and information is king, we have forgotten the fundamentals that make us human, anchor our lives, and provide meaning.

Jefferson Bethke, New York Times best-selling author and popular YouTuber, has lived the hustle and knows we need to stop doing and start becoming.

After listening to this book, you will discover:

  • How to proactively set boundaries in your life
  • How to get comfortable with obscurity
  • The best way to push back against the demands of contemporary life
  • The importance of embracing silence and solitude
  • How to handle the stressors that life throws at us

To Hell With the Hustle is for anyone who is:

  • Feeling overwhelmed with the demands of work, family and community
  • Wanting to connect and spend time with their family
  • Tired of being anxious, lonely, and burned out

Join Bethke as he discovers that the very things the world teaches us to avoid at all costs - silence, obscurity, solitude, and vulnerability - are the very things that can give us the meaning, and the richness we are truly looking for.

Great book

This book was Insightful and eye opening toward cultural issues and norms that are impacting my daily life. There are many things that I’m reflecting on and evaluating to implement for myself and family. I want to be slow and steady, committed and faithful, and to not just do much, but rather to be who God has called me to be. I believe this book will really help me and my family as we create rhythms that will form us more into His likeness.

“What do you mean by that?”

This simple question that Jeff lays out has transformed my conversations with people who disagree with me. Absolutely fantastic book.

Definitely a book I'll re-read/re-listen to.

Jeff is gifted with breaking down information to a level that just makes sense and is in line with Scripture. This book will help you remember that being in step with the rythm of Jesus is more important than going after the world's idol, hustle. The audiobook has some tid bit "extras" of his thoughts.

Life changing book

I have been praying about this very topic for about a year; specificity with social media & restructuring my life values. I highly valued being busy and have a full schedule. I would find identity in that.

I see all these people around me have such full life and mine isn’t.

Listening too this book, which I plan to relisten too, has shifted that thinking. I know want the opportunities too say no, don’t find my value in being busy but in my identity in Christ. To have more opportunities, than I already do, to be at home. With those more opportunities I pray that I am finding myself at the dining room table with Jesus or reading his word. Being more intentional with him instead of Netflix and social media.

Thank you jeff. Truly a life trajectory changing book.

Also listening too the podcast alongside the book has been incredibly helpful.

Nice reset

Very much needed for myself and everyone in American/Western society as it seemed mostly geared towards. Slow down, put your phone down, be present in every moment (no really present), be weary of your news media outlets. One of my favorite parts was him talking about people used to get a newspaper and it would be the same news for everyone and now people get different digital newspapers, to each their own, feeding their storylines and building more walls from each other.

Slow Down and be intentional

I needed this book in my life right. It was a book club pick and with a family of small children I needed to hear it’s ok if they “miss” this “once in a lifetime” or “first time” experience. We need to declutter our schedule and take meaningful time with each other. Good for the kids, marriage and self reflection.
