About this listen

Two young boys stumble on a dead prostitute. She's on Sean Denton's patch. As Doncaster's youngest community support officer, he's already way out of his depth, but soon he's uncovering more than he's supposed to know.

Meanwhile Karen Friedman, professional mother of two, learns her brother has disappeared. She desperately needs to know he's safe, but once she starts looking, she discovers unexpected things about her own needs and desires.

Played out against a gritty landscape on the edge of a Northern town, Karen and Sean risk losing all they hold precious.

Critic reviews

"Finding a new writer of decent police procedurals is a rare treat. Finding one with a new 'angle' is a rarity." (The Bookbag)
"Exciting, pacey, vivid and humane. Read it." (Lesley Glaister)
"This is a novel almost casually involved with crime. It gripped me from the first.... The descriptions of the setting, Yorkshire at its bleakest, the characters, were so subtly slipped in that I absorbed them subliminally.... I am now reading this excellent book again." (Shotsmag.co.uk)
"Hugely assured and gripping." (Mark Billingham)

I downloaded this after reading a review in the Yorkshire Post. I thought it would be good to read a book based aroung the area I live in. It was ok. I found it hard to engage with the characters and the story line was topical but not very exciting. Jonathon Keeble narrated it well.

It was ok

A good police procedure with likeable characters especially Sean Denton and good plot. Excellent narration as usual by Jonathan Keeble

Enjoyable story with very pleasing ending. PCSO and his nan get caught up in human trafficking. His basic instincts and local knowledge and dedication see him and his nan at the centre of several cases. Nice to hear a story based in Doncaster and York. Interesting new angle on detective novels. Sit and enjoy.

PCSO Denton caught me too!

Overall I thought this was a well written, well told story. There were for me ( and this is just a personal opinion) one or two too many convenient coincidences and I am not a huge fan of stories being all wrapped up with a neat ending- life just isn't like that.
I was however drawn in and I did want to keep listening so if you want a good story this is for you.

Good story- well told but.....

Would you consider the audio edition of To Catch a Rabbit to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the printed version, so could not tell you if it is better or worse. I thoroughly enjoyed the audio however.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I don't think I had a particular favourite. All the characters were well written

What does Jonathan Keeble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The narrator has a wonderfully mellifluous voice. His range of accents and acting ability really brings the characters to life

Any additional comments?

Good story and superb performance

Good story, excellent narrator
