About this listen

Change is afoot at Kings Lake Central police station. A most unexpected new detective inspector takes up his post this Monday morning, and the oldest detective in the place takes a momentous decision.

Around them, other officers are considering their own situations, and even the building itself seems to be facing an uncertain future. But life and death go on, nevertheless, and by lunchtime someone will make a grim discovery on the Norfolk saltmarshes. A stranger seems to have suffered a slow and agonizing death out there.

As the team from Kings Lake uncover his story, they reveal another, much older one with its origins far back in the previous century. In the tide that governs the affairs of men, it seems, love and loss, betrayal and revenge are timeless themes. Fans of Colin Dexter, P. D. James, and Ruth Rendell have all found much to enjoy in DC Smith's previous investigations.

I am hooked on this detective series.DC Smith is clever and likeable and respected by his colleagues. He is also witty and self deprecating. I also enjoy the police procedures .A very enjoyable read. Great to enjoy a detective story without graphic detail and violence. I hope there will be many more.

DC. Smith. A brilliant series.

as always I really enjoyed reading about the exploits of DC Smith and the intricacies that go on inside of his head
I found the whole series a fantastic read and as always ain't very believable set of characters within each story

I hope this is not the end as DC has too much to offer

DC does it again

Cracking story, fantastic narration. Love the humour too. Just one thing; a train from Swansea to London will not arrive at St Pancras, but Paddington.

Love this series!

I've listened to a few of these DC Smith books now and they are beautifully written - real page turners or the audio equivalent. The narration adds to the pleasure as the narrator is well spoken without being plummy and really brings the main protagonist to life. The descriptions of Norfolk countryside and coast make me want to go there too experience it for myself.

Well constructed

Once again,D C ‘s creator is revealed to have, not only a good feminine side, but essentially his poets soul, is evident all the way through, I’m sure D C would include a comment about Blackpool rock! Peter Grainger, I am very happy to say, is quite new to me, and having got quite used to the wise bird, DC Smith,so am very sad to hear we will be losing him soon, can that be true?
Thoroughly enjoyable 5 star entertainment. i shall download the rest, now I am hooked !

A poets soul.
