Story
Set in modern day Moscow, Night Watch is a world as elaborate and imaginative as Tolkien or the best Asimov. Living among us are the "Others," an ancient race of humans with supernatural powers who swear allegiance to either the Dark or the Light. A thousand-year treaty has maintained the balance of power, and the two sides coexist in an uneasy truce. But an ancient prophecy decrees that one supreme "Other" will rise up and tip the balance, plunging the world into a catastrophic war between the Dark and the Light.

The sun is bloated, diseased, dying perhaps. Beneath its baneful light, Shadrapar, last of all cities, harbours fewer than 100,000 human souls. Built on the ruins of countless civilisations, Shadrapar is a museum, an asylum, a prison on a world that is ever more alien to humanity. Summary
The world has collapsed, and there are no heroes any more. His name is Three, a travelling gun for hire in a dying world. He has no allegiances, no family, no ties.
Against his better judgment, he accepts the mantle of protector to a sick woman on the run, and her young son. Together they set out across the plains in search of a mythic oasis, attempting to survive the forces that pursue them, and the creatures of the dark.
In these dark times, a hero may yet arise.

Excitingly different book with good pacing
What did you like most about Three?
Before the last bit of the book, I would have answered the lack of information given away about the world. Enough detail is given that the world is vivid but the history remains shrouded in mystery throughout the book. But now I think I have to say that it is that I did not predict the ending. It is a rare book that weaves a narrative that can keep you guessing right up until the last few pages without just throwing out a huge twist. So basically I think the storycraft is excellent.
What other book might you compare Three to, and why?
I think this book was actually rather unique, if I had to pick another similar book it would be "The Gunslinger" by Stephen King. The world feels similar and in many ways Three reminds me of the Gunslinger. However unlike the gunslinger this book does not suffer from pacing issues and character suppression. It feels like there are few main players and every single one was well thought out, rather than the similarly few but still too many from the Dark Tower books.
Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I have not previously experienced this narrators work, but this was a fine introduction. If I had one complaint it was that the small child voice goes a little awry when the dialogue becomes more screamy.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were several moving moments in the book. Given the slow reveal of world facts, I can't say too much, but there was one scene where two warrior spirits parted ways. It was amplified by the particularities of the situation those characters were in and the parallels between our own existence. That is a scene that will stay with me for some time.
Any additional comments?
This really is an excellent book, it is rare to find a book that develops its characters and world well without drowning you in exposition while managing to maintain a swift pace. I would highly recommend it.

Entertaining
Three is an enjoyable and easy listen. The main story is not complicated and the world it is set in is never really explained e.g. who or what are the Weir, why is it a post-apocalyptic society and who is Three but I found myself caring about the characters which the narrator brings alive very well. The book does have the feel of a video game about it (not surprising considering the authors former career) but don’t let that put you off.
Over all an enjoyable book and well narrated.

Amazing!
In a post apocalyptic and ravaged world lives Three, a mysterious bounty hunter who finds himself the unintentional guardian to a mother, Cass, and her young son, Wren. It's a dark and dangerous place peopled by Weirs, zombie like creatures who are out to kill any humans who are out after dark. The humans who have survived whatever happened to the world and have enhanced abilities must still lock themselves away during the hours of darkness to stay safe.
The story is fascinating with compelling characters, the baddies are totally bad and very scary, the action scenes are vivid. Some teary moments involving Wren and Cass. The ending is totally unexpected..and sad. Luke Daniels' narration is amazing and it's impossible not to be moved to sadness, feel the tension and suspense.

lots of fantasy tropes and stories thrown together
This may be a good start for people getting into fiction or preteens but otherwise is unimaginative and lazy writing. The characters and scenes are not described well. The story mainly runs on luck rather than past experiances or skills. The motivations for half of the charcters are never explained. The world is interesting but doesn't seem to effect the plot significantly. The sample recording sounds interesting but is nearly completely irrelevant to the plot and world building. The whole book including the many action scenes are slow paced.
If you have read more than 5 fiction books in your life than avoid this book as you will know everything before it happens. Worse book I have heard/read all year.

Possibly a great book, let down by the narration
What didn’t you like about Luke Daniels’s performance?
His narration was awful. It was very very dramatic, like listening to someone read everything in that over-dramatised movie trailer voice. I was just about coping with it when, around ten to fifteen minutes in, Posey introduces some new characters and the voices Daniels gave them were so ear destroyingly awful I stopped listening.
For all I know, the book is a total masterpiece, but I'll never know until it's read by someone else.

Think Mr King 'Dark Tower'
Competent tale and an interesting listen. I'm reminded of Stephen King's Dark Tower and it does compare quite well with this.
A good narrator who complements the feel of the book although I did find him a little over dramatic at times (particularly the voice of '3')
Worth a listen

Firstly Luke Daniels has done a fantastic job as narrator. He brought the characters to life. flawless throughout.
The story is exciting and fast paced.

I like this book. Never boring.
If you could sum up Three in three words, what would they be?
Sad. Intriguing. Action.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, the end, nicely done.
Any additional comments?
This is obviously a post-apocalypse genre book. However the world is not entirely typical for the genre, besides the author manages to keep the world largely a mystery which I like, keeps you guessing and speculating. The story is largely a journey through a sort of urban wasteland where interesting dangers, friends and foes are met. I feel this is a major strength of the book, where some books set-up a typical good vs. evil scenario this book manages to feel like something that could have actually happened to real people. As such it is not a heroes journey even though the title suggest it.

Fast-moving adventure in a cool future world!
I rolled the dice on this one, based on reviews--and I was definitely NOT disappointed!
In a dystopian future world where remnants of past technology still hang on, Three is a drifter, a scavenger, a hunter, an all-purpose badass. But he's also a little bored. Something's missing--and then, as he sits in a bar, drinking away his latest payoff, a woman and her son appear, begging him for help.
Their journey takes us through first-time author Jay Posey's intriguing futurescape: blasted cities, frontier villages, safehouse bunkers, all places to hide from the terrifying Weir who walk only at night. Some human badasses also stalk the trio, and the action keeps going from almost the very start as Three and his charges get into and out of one scrape after another.
Some of those scrapes are standard fare for a SF/apocalyptic novel, but the author kept the tension going through the characters themselves. Each has secrets that can make or break any situation they get into, so even when I was able to guess what might befall the travelers, I couldn't tell how things were going to shake out.
The world itself was pretty interesting, too, combining elements of a standard post-apocalyptic setting with a Gibson-esque cyberpunk tone. We never find out what happened to the world we know now, but that isn't a big deal, as the details of the future world stand in for a full-on explanation.
Luke Daniels narrates this competently, with an Eastwood-ish voice for the title character. Overall, exciting and very fun. Looking forward to the rest of this series!

A Fast-Paced Story in a Post-Apocalyptic World.
Three is set in a fast-paced, post-apocalyptic world with patchy human settlements scattered around hostile and unforgiving land. The amount of scientific and technological concepts and innovation is minimal but satisfying.
Remember that feeling when you hear things like "microfilm" and "magnetic tape" on an inter-galactic space ship in classic science fiction? I can imagine someone in the year 2113 reading this book and not be disappointed with the subtle technology Posey weaves into the story. He's a futurist.
Don't be discouraged by reviews which highlight the lack of background story. Author's gestalt approach allowed me to conceptualise my own version of the world rendering the book highly interactive, engaging and personal.
While this is not the very best book I've purchased on Audible, it's certainly the one that kept my attention right through to the end. So many times I literally couldn't go to sleep until I found out what happened next.

Post apocalyptic lone wolf takes woman & child
A "classic" story of tough lone-man who gives up his rough and tumble life to protect woman & child in trouble. It was a retelling of a western in a post apocalyptic world.
I was entertained through to the end. I didn't rush to read the second book, but I might read it sometime later.
All in all, I found it somewhat interesting, while it didn't impress me with its originality or plot.
So I'd put this in the "time filler" escapism category.

Unexpected story telling
Three is about a wandering dude named 'Three'. He has sort of super hero abilities of strength and survival skills. Three helps out a woman and her kid who are in trouble, they are being hunted by some kind of group she used to be associated with. All of this takes place in a mysterious world where cyber zombies rule the night, but not the day.
What I kind of liked, but also found very irritating was the authors reluctance to let the reader know what is going on. Jay Posey holds back the plot essentially, dolling it out in tiny snippets. Instead its all action. Its all fights and running. Its kind of hard to get into the characters when you don't know why they are running. Or even what kind of world these people are living in.
I'm not a big fan of super hero books. I don't like it when characters depend on super human abilities to get by. I don't like it when a story is all action and no plot. And Posey's writing style is very linear. It is an adequate style, but nothing special. I did like the bleak Armageddon universe, though the author doesn't explore it as much as I would hope.
I would sort of equate this story with the most recent Mad Max Fury Road movie. You don't know why that world is the way it is and its all weird action from start to finish. You don't learn very much about the characters either in that movie. Three doesn't work as well as the movie though. The writing does not create the vivid imagery and does not reach the strange heights of the movie. Its like Fury Road (in style), but pale.

New Epic Adventure - better than the description
This was a real surprise for me. I had never heard of this series before. I read the description because Luke Daniels narrates it (he is seriously that awesome). The premise sounded interesting and it was on-sale so I bought it. This book was WAY better than its description sounded. The writing was fantastic. The story line completely engaging. And the new world system well executed, although a bit mysterious (probably intentional). I felt for all the characters. I seriously teared up during some of the emotional parts. I want to get the next one.

I want the other books in the series now!
If you could sum up Three in three words, what would they be?
Original, human, strong.
Any additional comments?
This book engulfed me in an original milieu that is fantastical yet plausible. The main characters are so interesting that I want to know what happens with them!
The performance by Luke Daniels captures the mood perfectly.
