Beautifully researched and well read. A sad but gripping tale of a woman who wants so much more in her life she is willing to kill. A sad thoughtful but rewarding book

Bit repetitive

Really enjoyed it to begin with. Became very repetitive, going over things already told. Felt as if it was just dragging the story out.

Very detailed… Very slow.

An account of a condemned murderess’ shenanigans, trial and end, strung out to the point of distraction. Not really sure if I enjoyed the listen.

Totally obsorbing

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. What a marvellous narrator. He was a joy to listen to. His changing appropriate voice and accents throughout were also a delight to listen to. It was superbly written. Mrs Berry unbelievably lied to the bitter end regarding Dr. Patterson and the killing of her own daughter and no doubt her other children. Were there no hospitals then for the unfortunate child to be taken to?. Not to mention the other victims of her horrific murders. Wicked and delusional, she certainly was. No crime is more grotesque than the killing and slow death of her own child and mother. She deserved her fate in the end. Highly recommended.

Wonderful narration by Gordon Griffin and a very compelling story.

Alot of Research has gone into this book. As someone who is particularly interested in True Crimes set in the Victorian era this was always going to be a "Must Buy." Particularly as the villain is a Woman, a Poisoner and a Psychopath. I particularly enjoyed the scenes set in the Courts as well as the Newspaper Reporting. The Letters to the newspapers were fascinating. You really get a glimpse into ordinary people's lives, as well as their awful deaths, through the medium of the criminal justice system. By the end of the book I could see Elizabeth Berry clearly. The poem reading scene was particularly chilling. Scary woman!

Opinionated

Easy to listen to, flowed okay if a bit repetitive at times, however my main issue with this book is the authors clear bias. Throughout this book it felt as thought the author had personal hatred for this woman and a few times offered opinion and rumours as fact.

A Murderess in the style of Mary Ann Cotton

Excellent narrator which can make or break an audio experience. The story itself very well researched. I can't help thinking this woman was inspired by Mary Ann Cotton of the decade before as there are alot of similarities between the cases yet this one I have never heard of before. I do recommend this book and enjoyed it very much over the course of only 2 days as I found it so interesting and compelling
