Story
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

There is a huge, bold black streak in the sky. Branches appear out of nowhere over North America, Southern Europe, and Central Africa. People who live beneath The Rift can see it. But scientists worldwide are distressed - their equipment cannot pick up any type of signal from it. The rift appears to consist of nothing. Literally. Nothing. Nada. Niente. Most people are curious but not overly concerned. The phenomenon seems to pose no danger. It is just there. Then something jolts the most hardened naysayers, and surpasses the worst nightmares of the world's greatest scientists.

Story
100,000 years ago the object hit the lake at the deepest point, quickly sinking into its mile-deep Stygian darkness. The sheets of ice closed, time moved on and the land forgot. But over the centuries, legends grew of people vanishing, of strange, deformed animals and of an unexplained luminescence down in the lake depths. When Marcus Stenson won the lucrative contract to create a sturgeon fish farm on the site of disused paper mill on the shore of Lake Baikal, he thought he had won the lottery and refused to listen to the chilling folktales....

Story
Bill Steele is in the trenches, trying to survive in the competitive world of luxury vacation resorts on the island of Kauai. Then a dark shadow falls over the island. It’s not a lunar eclipse, because Bill can clearly see the crescent moon shimmering on the water. This is something else. Moments later, the meteors begin to fall. One of them lands in the water just beyond the resort. On the news, the anchorman is fleeing from his hillside vantage point with his cameraman in hot pursuit. Their muffled screams are the last thing anyone hears before the signal is lost....

Summary
Markus Stebbings is hiding terminal brain cancer, hoping to remain alive and a part of Delta Force long enough to die for something that matters. The mission to destroy a domestic terrorist cell in possession of a nuclear bomb sounds like the opportunity he is looking for, until he realizes that his targets are not terrorists, and that what they have is something infinitely more dangerous than a bomb.
On the run with Dr. Grace Llewellyn and the device she calls Prometheus, Markus finds himself pitted against the full might of US intelligence and military forces as they mount the biggest manhunt ever conducted on American soil. He quickly learns that Prometheus represents a technological advancement so profound that it can alter the course of history. But there is another such device already in play, and he, Grace, and Prometheus are all that stand between it and the end of human civilization as we know it.

Great action
What would you do if you were sent on a covert action to stop a group of terrorists and upon arriving, realized something was wrong? Would you carry out your assignment or would you abort and suffer the consequence? You'll have to read the story to find out what Markus does. Filled with non-stop action and a wide-range of characters, this story moves rapidly from one scene to another, leaving the reader with no time for boredom. Throughout the book, you'll want to stop to catch your breath though. The narrator is fantastic and delivers a powerful read, and well-produced audio. Readers of Stuart Woods would likely love this book. I was provided with a free copy for review purposes, which in no way swayed my opinion of the book.

What a fun book!
This book was a blast to read. The story kept my interest. The characters were likable and yet flawed, which I felt made them relatable. The underlying premise was interesting and got me thinking. And best of all was the dialogue, which had me laughing out loud harder than any book I have read in a long time. Totally worth a read and a recommendation.

Fun excitement
This book was provided free of charge in expectation of a review.
This book was a surprise. It involved a team of Delta Force soldiers who became involved with scientist in an adventure to protect the scientist and prevent the use of a quantum computer to take over the entire country.
The narrator did an outstanding job and was clear and emotional.
This story is a must listen as it is well written and exciting from beginning to end.

The disgust and scorn for the US Military and it’s members is epic...
A story which, based on its plot, could have been both interesting and exciting, instead plods along in a predictable path that is punctuated with reminders that the author believes that only a suicidal imbecile would enter the military of their own free will, and that those members are then beaten and brainwashed into becoming murderous robots, incapable of independent thought, and constantly 1 step from a bloody rampage.
It is impressively offensive.
