Summary

Raine Kendall has everything a woman could want…almost. Sexy, tender Dom Liam O'Neill is her knight in shining armor, but Raine keeps pinching herself. Is he too good to be true or is this growing connection one that could last a lifetime? She's constantly torn by her abiding feelings for her commanding boss, Macen "Hammer" Hammerman, especially in the wake of the mind-blowing night he cast aside the barriers between them and ravaged every inch of her body.

Hammer, Liam's former best friend, can't stop coveting Raine. But Liam is determined to hold and guide the woman he loves and see if she can be the submissive of his dreams. However, he's finding that her trust is hard won and he needs a bloody crowbar to pry open her scarred soul. So he risks everything to win her once and for all. But once he's put his daring plan in motion, will it cost Liam his heart if he loses Raine to Hammer for good?

Good read

Second book finished and was l lot better than first one or should I say the three main didn’t annoy me as much . I like Beck he is hilarious and of course Seth . Still think there definitely should have been 3 narrators though, that for me has let the book down .

awful narrating

the narrator was the same for every character which meant the girls had ridiculous annoying voices and the Irish accent was awful, it made it very annoying to listen to.

the story itself was not much better. Totally cheesy story line.

I would not recommend this book I was very disappointed.

The authors definitely know how to right steamy sex scenes. I really felt the characters and what was happening.

INTENSE, HOT, EMOTIONAL & AWE AWE AWESOME

Firstly, if you haven't already listened to book 1 in this trilogy then stop right now and download it first otherwise you will be totally confused, won't get the best from this listen and you'd be missing out on so much background info. Now I love all sorts of Alpha males taking the form of dark Vampires, Regency/Victorian Rakes, pillaging Vikings, bad boy Bikers, brooding Highlanders and demanding Playboys (well you get the drift) but these two Doms, well they take Alpha to a whole new level... Uber, yet caring, Alpha's.

This book has really cranked up the tension between Raine, Macen (aka Hammer) and Liam as we find them all at Macen's BDSM Club all trying to come to terms with their turbulent feelings and the situation they're all now in but they're all failing badly. Eventually Raine is pushed into taking drastic and dramatic action that spurs Macen and Liam to think again about their options over the Sub they both deeply love.

What an emotional ride this awesome, well-written book is as damaged and distraught Raine confronts the demons from her past together with her insecurities while Macen and Liam try to overcome jealousy, their own insecurities, hurtful secrets and memories from their past. All that while trying to show and teach Raine that honesty, openness and trust is the only way forward but that is the last thing that they're being with her. There's great dialogue, touching and moving scenes and some very hot sexy times but this is about so much more like the character growth of all three which involves fellow Doms Seth and Beck who lend a guiding hand (not physically). Everyone loves everyone but, at the end when the WTF HOLY SH*T cliffhanger comes smashing through with just one phone call, is that going to be enough to save this difficult tender and loving Ménage.

Worth the credit? Oh boy was it ever.... but be warned as it's very high on the emotional side rather than the sexual side however there are still deep, intense, hot and passionate erotica scenes in there too. Christian Fox's narration was simply flawless, inspired and downright sexy which added so much to the enjoyment of this listen. I'm desperate for book 3 but I'm screaming, pacing up and down while pulling my hair out as there isn't even a release date yet.... oh please someone hear my prayers so I can finally be put out of my misery.

Such a waste...

Would you try another book from the authors and/or Christian Fox?

I typically love Shayla Black. However, I will NEVER purchase another book that is not a stand alone title. I am absolutely fed up with authors and publishers abusing the industry. Especially when the "books" are all being sold in electronic formats there is no justification for a $30 book price for a single book of a trilogy. I am not a fan of the other two authors FYI. So disappointed in seeing this work from an author I love.

Has The Young and the Submissive turned you off from other books in this genre?

Nope. I love reading erotica and romance, but as I said I am through with buying books that are not stand alone titles.

I am SICK of authors turning a single story into a trilogy. As a customer I am not stupid and AUTHORS-the jig is up. I had read the first book of this series and was frustrated by the ending (you should skip that one as well) and decided that I wanted to "close the loop" on this story. Well, needless to say that did not happen. This book went on FOREVER. And not in a good way. I found myself spacing out and getting bored. Seriously, it's erotica and if I am bored you are seriously doing something wrong. I am all about creating a story, drama, and some sexual tension, but this story was just infuriating.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator kept slipping up and inserting an Irish lilt into various roles (other than the actual Irish charterer).

I am not a huge fan of male narrators unless they are narrating a male part because they just sound stupid as a woman. The few exceptions to this are the Christian Lauren books-yum. I loved the Irish accent but was annoyed by the portrayal of the female lead.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Young and the Submissive?

I would have cut 80% of the book, combined it with the first, and whatever the hell they plan to publish as the third in this series. Way too much filler and not enough meat. Double entendre intentional...

Any additional comments?

Skip this book. Such a huge waste. We as customers should not support this ridiculous movement in publishing that forces readers/listeners to buy additional books in order to resolve a story. They will continue to do so if we keep buying.

Suggested great reads: if you are into BDSM Joey W. Hill (amazing, hot, deep, and emotionally rich stories) or OTHER Shayla Black (i.e Bound and Determined, Ours to Cherish, Ours to Love); other great erotica Olivia Cunning (interesting, creative, and steamy rock themed) or Christina Lauren (although they are a series, each book is a stand alone and panty melting HOT).

THIS IS BULLSH**

Listening to the first book in this series was a new experience for me. I am not the type of woman to go for romance novels of any kind. Ever. The book I sampled and read reviews about did not seem to fall into the genre of sappy, shallow and simplistic romance stories. Long ago having reached the point where it is incredibly difficult to find a good book, I took a chance and used a credit to purchase something that might be out of my comfort zone. It was indeed, but overall I kind of liked the first book.

I could have stopped there. The ending wasn’t a cliffhanger unless the reader wanted to continue to see how these people moved on and where they wound up. Normally, I would have used my imagination to add an epilogue. Since I had one more credit and a continuing desire to find a treasured good book amidst all the trash of bad ones, I purchased this second book of the series. What a mistake.

“The Young and the Submissive,” was immature, unbelievable and total bullsh**. It was a stretch to hear once again the irritating and whiny voice of the female in this series. The narrator, Christian Fox, does a great job on the male characters’ voices. He doesn’t do well on the female character. Her voice grates on my nerves. It’s obviously a man trying to imitate a woman and doing a poor job of it. It’s not necessarily Christian Fox’s fault because the same can be said of many male narrators. The same goes for female narrators trying to imitate the male voice. It’s a rare person who can accomplish this. Putting that irritation aside, I began this second book.

While reading the first book I had to pull back from a few scenes that made me uncomfortable. I knew the story would contain these scenes and hoped they would be few. One scene was excruciatingly long, but since there weren’t many more, and none that difficult to read, I was able to put them aside and focus on the main storyline: Three stubborn people who care about each other without knowing how to openly and honestly tell each other the truth. The moments woven throughout the story where they finally do so are great. There are several explicit sex scenes which would normally not be what I want to read - NOT AT ALL. Maybe it’s my age and my body is seeking a final vicarious hoorah, so I sought this and, boy howdy, did I ever find it! My goodnes! Yes, I greatly enjoyed those scenes. Whereas I could have moved on in my constant search for a good book, I kept with the series.

Add back in the obviously-not-female voice and increase the level of stubbornness, then top it off with childishness and incredulous, explicit sex scenes and the outcome is “The Young and the Submissive.”

I cannot recount how many times I said, “Bullsh**,” as I listened to this trashy farce. I am not a person who uses that word as a regular part of my vocabulary. For me to use that word, especially over and over throughout this book, proves how outrageously ridiculous great portions of this book are. Normally I would not finish reading a book at one of these junctures, like the first or second time I used that word, but I did want to learn where these three people ended things, so I kept listening to the end. Oh my dear God in Heaven, I wish I had not. I suppose there are people in this world who actually engage in the sexual act vividly described at the end of this book, but I wish to my God I had not heard the details.

To sum it up: Childish. Stupid. Perversion. Bullsh**.

I will be asking for my credit to be returned. I will not buy another book in this series.
