Summary

Poland, 1941. Roza and her five-year-old daughter, Shira, are the only surviving Jews in their town. They spend day and night hidden in a neighbour’s barn. Forbidden from making a sound, only the yellow bird from her mother’s stories can sing the melodies Shira composes in her head.

Roza does all she can to take care of Shira and shield her from the horrors of the outside world. They play silent games and invent their own sign language. But then the day comes when their haven is no longer safe, and Roza must face an impossible choice: whether the best thing she can do for her daughter is keep her close by her side or give her the chance to survive by letting her go.

The Yellow Bird Sings is a powerfully gripping and deeply moving novel about the unbreakable bond between parent and child and the triumph of humanity and hope in even the darkest circumstances.

Just Amazing.

I had a chance to get a copy of The Yellow bird sings by Netgalley to read and review. I loved this book so much I had to get the audio and I was not disappointed. This book/audio took my breath away several times. Just beautifully written throughout and with so much Passion throughout. A few tears were shed when read and listened to it.
This book is set in Poland 1941, it tells of a mother's love for her only child is like nothing else in the world what she did to save her 5 year old child called Shira. Roza and her daughter Shira are hiding in a neighbours barn hoping and prayer they are not found by the Germans or someone tells the Germans they are there. They have to be very quiet and hide from the outside world. This is very hard especially as its no place for a 5 year old to be.
The Narrator was just perfect for this wonderful book.
Highly recommend. x

4/5 stars, would recommend

“Tzofia blinks against the stagelights and looks in her direction, faint hope fluttering inside her, like a yellow bird flying its way home.”

I’m going to be honest: when I first started listening to The Yellow Bird Sings, I thought it was going to be one of those books that I’d finish simply because I finish every book I ever start reading, whether I like it or not. And I wasn’t particularly invested until maybe the last third of the story. By the time I reached that part, I was so frustrated, I just needed to know how the story ends. Was it disappointing? Maybe a little, but it also liked it a little bit because it was realistic. I could look over many of the book’s flaws while writing this review, there’s only one thing that really bothered me: the pace of the ending. The last part of the book is the wrap-up of the story, but it was really rushed, like the story was meant to end after Part 3, but then the author decided to add the final part but was running out of time to write it. However, the ending made me cry, and it’s been such a long time that a book made me this emotional, I can’t help but like it and rate it better than I was originally going to.
