Love and hunger are not the same.

Six years ago, on a remote Scottish island, a mysterious woman saved Sister Madeleine Laurent from drowning. Now, after leaving her convent, Madeleine crosses the ocean again to find the rescuer who changed her life. Instead, her search is disrupted by Hæra North, a brazen, provocative local who stirs Madeleine's repressed desires—and keeps a secret out of legend.

Hæra has one dream: to become the first female Stormhorse, a powerful leader in her clan of fearsome ocean horse spirits. To do so, she must capture, drown, and eat a worthy human. When she first saw Madeleine, she knew she'd found the one. So why did Hæra save her instead?

Now Madeleine's back. All Hæra has to do is remain in human form, earn her woman's trust, then devour her.

But Madeleine is awakening another kind of appetite . . .

The Woman from the Waves is an epic lesbian romantasy about the power of unleashed desire, the courage it takes to change, and a love so vast it spans the sea, earth, and sky.

Contains mature themes.

As the book started I was sceptical about the Narration. But hell I was wrong. As the story grows so does the narration. I was already a huge fan of Sinclair but this definitely stands out. It has a little of everything. MC’s are relatable even with the fantasy side. I felt a little like this would be how someone with Autism would find navigating the world.
Heartbreaking and gorgeous all at the same time.
Still trying to answer the question what love is because it comes in so many forms. This isn’t just a book it’s thought provoking and will steal ur mind whilst u read or listen. Loved it.

I waited for this audiobook for so long and I wasn’t disappointed. The story is beautifully written and engaging as usual from Rosalyn. However, I must say the narrator was at times… tiring and everyone had the same accent which makes a huge difference when listening (still totally worth listening). 😊

Wonderful story

I absolutely INHALED this book. On one hand it’s a lovely and engaging love story spanning time and culture and worlds, on another level it’s a beautifully written exploration of love, religion, homophobia and found family. I was hooked from the start by its breadth and depth and sheer cleverness of interwoven issues all wrapped up in a tender love story. I’ve liked this author’s work for a while but this is her best yet (imho) Ruth Urquhart’s narration is also perfect with authentic Orkney accents to boot. Wonderful!!

Beautiful, engrossing and a tour de force of storytelling

The question with The Woman from the Waves is not did I cry, but how many times did I cry?
Be warned, if you pick up that book, it is a deep emotional one (it might have impacted me more than some because I could empathize highly with some themes and problems the characters encounter, but still).
The story teaches you about acceptance, the importance of self-discovery, the life in a community, sometimes with new customs and social cues that can be hard to navigate, family—both the one we are born with and the one made along the way, happiness, and the importance of living.
This was a beautiful, raw, hot, deep, and hopeful story that still lives in my heart.
The book is a well-balanced mix of plot and character development, both closely interconnected and driving the story.
Despite some heavier themes along the way, it is ultimately full of hope and sunshine.
I really liked that it was based in Scotland and inspired by Scottish folklore, and even if the author warned at the start she took some liberties, in the end, it is well respected.
The book brings the mix between folklore and religion, combining religious questioning and folkloric elements, which I found really interesting and allowed space for reflection.
In a year and a half, only three books have shaken me to my core, on a soul level. This is one of them.

The narration for this book is on point. The narrator does two well-distinct voices for the two main characters, and it is clear and easy to follow the story.
