About this listen

War veteran Peter Ash tracks a murderer through the most forbidding and stark landscape he has ever encountered, in the fifth thriller from the bestselling author of The Drifter.

Losing ground in his fight against his claustrophobia, ex-soldier Peter Ash has no intention of ever getting on a plane—until a grieving woman asks him to find her grandson. The boy's mother was murdered and his father, the sole suspect, has taken his son and fled to Iceland.

When Peter is met at Reykjavik airport by a man from the US Embassy, he realises the powers that be don't want him in Iceland. But he isn't going home until he accomplishes his mission—even if it means incurring the wrath of his own government.

Peter must confront his growing PTSD and endure a powerful snowstorm to find a killer, save a young boy and keep himself out of prison—and a cold Icelandic grave.

I think I enjoyed this one the most so far. I could really see it being made into a movie or on screen.
The building up from past to present was done well with good pace and timing to each progression.
Dodgy Irish accent aside from the narrator I found it a tricky book to narrate, but accomplished very well.
I like the story, the setting. The harshness of Iceland and the reflecting outcome to certain characters which if Disney or Hollywood would not have happened.
A minor pet peeve is Peters ability to be at deaths door and overcome people 100% prepared. Along with the references and descriptions of "wolf" traits, which are slightly annoying.
However - the book as a whole is very good and I think the character having a break from June and Lewis was a big plus.
8/10

Arguably the best one yet

Another top-notch instalment in the excellent Peter Ash series. Love the Icelandic setting! Well-written story, fab characters, great narration. Has all the ingredients we’ve come to expect from Nick Petrie. I missed Lewis, though. Cracking on with the next book in my binge-listen. Keep the stories coming, please, Mr Petrie!

Brilliant! Peter goes Berserker

Came to these books after finishing off the jack reacher series and have to say I'm really enjoying them, can't wait to hear the next one.

I found the story a little too incredible, even for fiction. While all the elements are there, it seemed to unfold in an awkward manner.
Trying not to leave any spoilers, I will say that I found some of the reactions of the main characters at odds with logic and expectations.
For me, the sudden ending left the book incomplete, almost abandoned.
A polished performance by Stephen Mendel made the book an enjoyable listen.

Not my favourite of the series
