About this listen

One summer morning, three little girls meet for the first time. By the end of the day, two will be charged with murder. Twenty-five years later, journalist Kirsty Lindsay is reporting on a series of sickening attacks on young female tourists in a seaside town when her investigation leads her to interview funfair cleaner Amber Gordon. For Kirsty and Amber, it's the first time they've seen each other since that dark day when they were just children. But with new lives - and families - to protect, will they really be able to keep their wicked secret hidden?

"This incredible story will play on your mind. Two weeks after I read it, I can't stop thinking about it. The book of the year." ( The Sun)
"Dark, twisty and full of good surprises and insights. Marwood has delivered a compelling debut crime novel." ( Daily Mail)

This is my first book by Alex Marwood it will not be my last. I was hooked from the beginning and the added bonus was brilliant narration by Anna Bentinck.

Excellent book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I was drawn into the double lives that Kirsty and Amber were leading. Both were drawn so believably, down to the accents that Anna Bentinck used for them before and after the 'incident'. Sometimes I was so engrossed in the story that I'd look up from my sewing and be surprised by my own surroundings!I liked the way that the author wove the girls' lives into the womens' current lives at appropriate moments, so that the reader/listener might suspect what had happened but didn't know until the author wanted them to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both the main girls, Kirsty and Amber. I kept on feeling that Vic and Jim were a little 2 dimensional though and would have liked them more fleshed out even though it might have detracted from the main storyline.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Quite a few of the scenes were very believable. The girls annoyance with being lumbered with the little girl gave credence to what happened next.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book enough to look out for more of the Alex Marwood's audio books and ones read by Anna Bentinck.

I've never listened to a book that had such menace, and dark despair flowing all the way through it. It was like a BBC drama, "Boy A" with Andrew Garlfield.

You know that some girls did something when they were younger, each consecutive chapter drops more hints; ratcheting up the suspense. Meanwhile, present day in a seaside town, someone is murdering young girls - are the two crimes related?

Grim
