Story
The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Story
Olivia and Julian are enjoying lazy days in their Spanish villa, a well-deserved break from their busy lives. Especially for Julian, who after a lifetime as a carer was thrust into the public eye following the tragic murder of his first wife. The languid heat and peace of the villa is broken only by clifftop walks, sun-drenched lunches and cooling swims. Until a chance encounter with Gabriel—an attractive man, many years their junior—changes everything. Soon their idyllic break turns into a dangerous, high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse. Will any of them get out alive?

Just four words were printed in the card. He doesn’t love you. I’ve been dreaming about this day - marrying Adam, my childhood sweetheart, who I’ve loved for 18 years. I didn’t realize the perfect day would turn into the perfect nightmare. I was so excited to send out the wedding invitations, carefully writing everyone’s names on thick cream paper in beautiful cursive script. I had no idea I was inviting someone to destroy our marriage.

The six of us arrived on that beautiful Greek island dreaming of sun-drenched beaches and blood-orange sunsets, ready to lose ourselves in the wild freedom of a weekend away with friends. On the first night, we swam under a blanket of stars. On the second night, the games began on our clifftop terrace. On the third night, the idyll cracked, secrets and lies whispering on the breeze. Carly had thought they’d always live there. The beautiful Cornish cliffside house they’d taken on as a wreck, that Mark had obsessively redesigned and renovated - a project that had made him famous. It was where they’d raised their children, where they’d sat cozily on the sofa, watching storms raging over the sea below. It was where they’d promised to keep each other’s secrets. Until now. Because Mark has fallen in love. With someone he definitely shouldn’t have. Someone who isn’t Carly. And suddenly their family home doesn’t feel like so much of a safe haven.

Only just started this but sending it back as the poor narration is spoiling the story
I don’t understand when they use actors, mainly to read stories, why it’s so hard for them to ‘act’ them.

Slow burn fizzles out
I found it slow and repetitive, I imagine it was being dragged out to build suspense but it didn’t work for me.
The characters were a bit immature as if still at school rather than in their late 30s. I hoped for an exciting twist at the end.
Narrator seemed to forget the accents being used for some characters - the therapist and Graham in particular! Sometimes the narration was so robotic I wondered if it was actually a human or not, other times it was breathy and panicky like someone anxiously narrating an M&S Food advert.

Good story, enjoyed it!
Story was really good and well thought out. A little bit different to the crime thrillers I normally end up reading but it was good. The characters were easy to slip into the minds of.
I feel like some of the narrators were a little robotic at times and sometimes read sentences in tones that turned them into questions when they weren’t meant to be, it made it quite distracting from the the story initially but you do get used it.

Positives and negative’s
Okay- I’m going to be doing a list of positives and negative’s. A positive would be that it was a good story and good plot- however a negative would be that it was drawn out with unpleasant characters who are hard to relate to. A positive would be it kept me listening to the end which is more than I can say for some stories.

Great story line
A good story, kept me in suspense. Found the narrator a little annoying. One was a little robotic sounding and the recording quite tinny and the other a weird thing where she dragged lots of words and went up at the end of the sentence. Think would be better to read the book rather than listen to audio in this case but good!!
