Summary

From the creators of Big Little Lies comes The Undoing, a gripping thriller starring Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant and Donald Sutherland.

'A great psychological thriller ... I couldn't put it down.' Daisy Goodwin

'Gripping . . . had me in its thrall from page one . . . Brilliant.' Metro

A New York Times bestseller

Grace Sachs, a happily married therapist with a young son, thinks she knows everything about women, men and marriage. She is about to publish a book called You Should Have Known, based on her pet theory: women don't value their intuition about what men are really like, leading to serious trouble later on. But how well does Grace know her own husband? She is about to find out, and in the place of what she thought she knew, there will be a violent death, a missing husband, and a chain of terrible revelations.

Left behind in the wake of a very public disaster, and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for herself and her child.

Very enjoyable domestic noir thriller

An engaging story and I really enjoyed Korelitz's style of telling the story and revealing it piece by piece. Highly recommended for fans of domestic noir.

An excellent listen.

I loved this subtle intelligent book. From Grace's smug happy marriage and what she thought was a perfect life to her realisation that nothing was as it seemed.

Gripping

Loved this book. I wanted to read/hear it before watching the film. It is fascnating and makes one think how life becomes busy and speeds past but you are not necessarily making the very best of or even understanding or enjoying it as you could.
Gripping storyline I couldn't wait for my next listening session.

Interesting Book But not at all like the TV Series

I brought this book because I had started watching the TV series and could not wait six weeks to find out what happened to Eleana. I was disappointed though as the book is very different from the TV series the main facts are the same a murder a husband who disappears and a wife left distraught but at this point the book and the series part ways. Whilst the series deals with the relationship between Grace and Jonathon and the trial, the book focuses on Grace's subsequent recovery from the fall out of the murder and how she establishes a new life and a fresh start for her and her son away from the city. There is far more emotional depth to the book and fleshing out of Grace as an individual. In its own right it's a good book but don't expect the recreation of the TV series.

Took me several goes to come to terms with the pronunciation of “Malaga” especially as it is one of the main characters in the book but otherwise 5 stars

Excellent, but would like to have 'met' him.

One can't form an opinion when you haven't actually met a character, but I finished this very quickly. I was disappointed in the ending. Not very satisfying. But endings are mostly a disappointment. The journey was great. It's always good to get into the detail of how to recognise a sociopath. I'm not quite there but think I now know the signs a little bit more. Listening to podcasts helps a lot.

Keep with it

It is a bit slow at the start, but it is a good listen once it gets going.

such a shame

After watching the first episode of the TV adaption I thought I must read/listen to the book first. Ive manged just shy of 3 hours. The narrator has the most annoying voice I just cant concentrate on the story. Lost the will to carry on listening. I loved the TV adaption so I may read the book at some point...once I can think about it without that woman's voice coming to mind!

Colossal waste of time

Utter waste of time. After the discovery of what her husband did there is absolutely NOTHING worth hanging around for. I kept waiting for ‘that moment’ where he reappears in her lake house or something thrilling or exciting happens, but no. Not one single thing. Also, the book is extremely American. Many, many American phrases, references and terminologies used throughout, making it very hard to concentrate on what was actually going on. This author also like to tangent to the extreme, leaving you wondering what the point of the whole paragraph was. I found it completely laborious and a real disappointment, given that I sat it out to the bitter end. Thumbs down.
