When it comes to genes life's a lottery....

As Abi knows - she's spent her life in the shadow of her beautiful, glamorous older sister Cleo. Headhunted as model when she was 16, Cleo has been all but lost to Abi for the last 20 years. So when Abi is invited to spend the summer in Cleo's large London home with her perfect family, she agrees despite serious misgivings. But maybe Cleo is finally as keen as Abi to regain the closeness they shared in their youth?

Abi is in for a shock. Soon she's left caring for her two young, spoilt nieces and handsome, unhappy brother-in-law, while Cleo plainly has other things on her mind. As Abi moves into her sister's life, a cuckoo in the nest, she wrestles with uncomfortable feelings.

Could having beauty, wealth and fame lead to more unhappiness than not having them? Who in the family really is the ugly sister?

What on earth happened to the ending?

This was quite a good book, interesting and believable, but not as good as all of her other books.
Even so, I would have given it 5 stars if not for the sudden abrupt ending! I was waiting for the narrator to say, "Chapter 28" but she didn't. Instead I heard "Audible hope you've enjoyed this book" ????? I looked at my phone thinking I must've pressed something by mistake and skipped to the end of the book, but I hadn't - it HAD actually finished. I couldn't believe it! What happened? Did the author get fed up with the story? Did the narrator go on strike? The ending left me wishing I hadn't bothered listening to the previous 10 hours, it became a complete waste of time. It was like reading a good book, only to discover too late that the last 20 pages were missing.
If the author thought this was a clever way to end a book - it wasn't!!!!
I would never recommend this book to anybody.

What happened to the ending?

Had to look at the reviews to check that I hadn’t missed a massive section at the end. There is no ending it’s like she gave up, maximum word count reached. I don’t know if there is a second book to it. It feels like there needs to be to finish off all the loose endings.

Wish I hadn’t bothered

Well I have always enjoyed Jane Fallon but this story has put me off and I don’t think I’ll read another as I don’t like to feel this way having read a book through to the end. The narrator however was excellent I will say that.

This book has no ending. It just stops.

Overall this story was ok except that it dragged on a bit - presumably the author thought so too as it came to a sudden end with no conclusion of any kind. Perhaps she too was bored. Very frustrating having stuck with it for far longer than it should have taken to tell the tale. I assume a sequel is planned but I won’t be bothering to read it in case it too just stops rather than ends. The only saving grace was the narrator.

Why no last chapter?

Great story arc but nothing tied up at the end. I guess the author wanted us to reach our own conclusions but I found it very frustrating that nothing was tied up. Was she successful in her application for the course? What happened between her and John? What happened to Richard and Stella? Must say though I don’t really care what happened to Cleo ! Maybe planning a follow up? Hope so.

Not as good as usual

Such a shame, flat, boring, unrealistic. No twists, everything happens towards the end. Not up to her usual wonders standard, sorry.

Enjoyable but not as good as others & weird ending

Great narration but I found the story flat. Easy to follow, clear and pricise but no highs or lows, nothing overly sad or happy.

2 sisters, one a single mum, the other a vain posh has-been model. Model sister invites other sister to stay with her and her family over the holidays. Relationships are tested, changed, developed but it's all so standard .. no backstory, no 'wow' moments.

I've read and loved many JF books but I'd leave this one to the end of the pile. It is OK & passes the time but not a lot of substance.

And I have no idea why the ending was cut off so abruptly ... the book isnt good enough for a sequal .. dont understand
