About this listen

I never believed in fairy-tales. Never held out for Prince Charming.

Growing up poor in small-town California as the oldest of six siblings, I knew I would never ride off into the sunset with anyone. That was even more apparent when a senseless tragedy took the lives of my parents, forcing me to become the sole guardian of our dysfunctional household at the mere age of 23.

Then a fateful encounter literally brought Prince Charming to my doorstep. At first I thought Viktor was just your average businessman passing through, albeit obscenely handsome, six-foot-five, blue-eyed, and mysteriously rich. But soon I discovered the truth behind Viktor's façade. Beneath his quiet, enigmatic gaze and cocky charm, is a man who is running away from who he really is. A role he'd rather not fulfill.

He is Viktor of House Nordin, His Royal Highness, The Crown Prince of Sweden.

Yet uncovering Viktor's secret was only the first step. I didn't expect to fall in love with him. I didn't expect to have my whole life turned upside down. When you're from two different worlds, can your hearts meet somewhere in the middle? Or do happily-ever-afters only exist in fairy-tales?

Contains mature themes.

Nice performances and story, but the heroine’s voice sounded too young for my taste and this was not helped by the character’s whiny and self-absorbed inner voice. I also found her use of profanity jarring at times. I have enjoyed some of Karina Halle’s other books more than this one.

Im not picking them well. This was another book with a good story but way too long. The spice was good. The prince was charming, gorgeous and had a massive 🍆 (of course), she was a pauper a paper cut away from a total breakdown after some tragic events turn her life upside-down.
great narration

I loved A Nordic King, of the same series, so I tried to listen to all the other titles. Yet, after a promising beginning, I struggled to find the gravitas of the first and got lost in a sea of SMUT. The only real plus for me was the mental health representation—even royal families aren’t immune to pressure and tragedy, which I appreciated.

Mini Synopsis: In a Cinderella-esque story, Maggie crosses paths with the undercover Swedish crown prince, Victor, in a comedy of errors. After losing her parents, Maggie is left to raise her big, chaotic family, while Victor suddenly becomes heir to the throne after his brother’s suicide. Their worlds collide when Victor, passed out and hiding from his royal duties, ends up in a small bar in Topeca, California. Can a prince and a struggling small-town girl truly make it work?

It didn’t work for me because of the insta-lust. Why are they together? Lust isn’t enough. I get passion and some well-written intimate scenes, but it’s simply not enough to get serious in a week. Maybe it’s the fairytale of it all, and I’m losing it. A plus, though, is that the kids have amazing personalities and lines—just like in A Nordic King.

The audiobook is well narrated and well-paced, as all of Tantor Audio (sorry if I’ve misspelled it).
