About this listen

Belly has an unforgettable summer in this stunning start to the Summer I Turned Pretty series from the New York Times bestselling author of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (now a major motion picture!), Jenny Han.

Some summers are just destined to be pretty.

Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer—they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

Nice story and such a great narrator! So sad in parts though and I really loved the character of Suzannah! Not sure what Belly saw in Conrad though as he seemed to be kinda not that nice, even since they were tiny! It was an easy read/listen though apart from the sad parts that had me tearing up! When I’d seen the TV show pop up I didn’t know what it was about and just listened out of curiosity and now I’m glad I listened to this first! I’m a little scared to read the next in the series though incase she doesn’t make it!

Nice but sad

It’s a tragedy and sad but somehow special at the same time. Jenny Han is such a good writer I don’t know how she does it.

So emotional

Boring boring boring, narrator seemed to be laughing all he way through it got really annoying!
The story could’ve been so much better, characters weak.

Annoying narrative poor storyline

I enjoyed the narration. Lola Tung narrated and she did a great job. Belly was more likeable because of the narration. I did have a good time with the story too, but I've also seen the TV show, and that was actually better so I found myself comparing them.

The main trouble I had with the book was the way the characters treated each other. None of them really felt like they liked each other. Jeremiah and Conrad constantly just tease and pick on Belly (along with Steven which is a bit fairer since he's her brother). Belly seems to hate all other girls and I don't like that. She had lovely, and sometimes complex, relationships with other girls in the show.

It was still a good read, well-written, fun, and I'd still recommend it, I personally just wished I could have been more invested in the relationships in the book.

Lola Tung is a fabulous narrator

Having the actress who plays Belly in the show voice her in the book is genius. Lola manages to carry laughter in her voice
