Tough historic facts which were sad to read, sad historic facts, enveloped in 2 romantic stories. First few chapters difficult to understand where it all fitted in but opened up and all joined together.

Non stop listen

The layering of the study feels jarring at first, but it works beautifully to weave through the deeper reflections of the author in the contemporary narrative.
The characters manage a moral journey that is nuanced, intriguing and surprising at times.
I've read a lot of books about the Holocaust. I love this author so I read this one only out of loyalty but I was surprised that she took me on a journey I had not yet been on too. I don't often re-read books but I know I will come back to this again.
