This book is an eye-opening read in our age of constant overstimulation. I have always been energetic, busy, and with a lot going on. I have slowed down and have become calmer as I've grown older. This book offers practical wisdom on embracing Stoicism to find mental resilience, emotional control, and personal change. It's a timely reminder that amidst the chaos of the modern world, inner peace and fulfillment are achievable. Highly recommended for those seeking calm in the storm of life!

Before listening to this terrific book, I had only a vague and someone erroneous sense of what the philosophy of Stoicism is. As it turns out, Stoicism is a thoughtful, positive, and sensible way of living life. It has tremendous potential to contribute to improved mental health. Indeed, expert author and compassionate narrator Jordan T. Beckett points out that Stoicism (which was developed by the ancient Greeks) forms the basis of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. As I listened to the book, it struck me also that Stoicism is tightly related to Dialectical Behavior Therapy, including Soticism’s emphasis on mindfulness, acceptance of reality, and emotion regulation.

If you suspect that Soticism is about eliminating emotion or passion, you are misinformed. The goal of Stoicism is to find purpose in your daily existence and live with more fulfillment and meaning. It also seeks to improve your resilience in the face of adversity and to recognize that happiness and suffering are more about your perception of events than of the events themselves. Central ideas include accepting what you cannot control; practicing the virtues of courage, wisdom, justice, and temperance; preparing for adversity through negative visualization; finding a passion and using it to help others; understanding others and letting go of judgment; and more. For all of these and other topics, Beckett explains in depth both theory and practical execution.

A nice addition is the inclusion of journal prompts at the end of each chapter, which are read and also available for free download. I also found the two quizzes (one about your level of stress and the other about your level of happiness) useful and revealing. In short, I found this book fascinating and impactful, and I believe anyone who feels lost, disconnected, or unsatisfied can benefit from it.

I have recently been learning more about the philosophy of Stoicism through personal research on the internet, first exposed in college and recently via youtube videos. When I saw this guide to a peaceful life, I just had to give it a listen!

There is so much to learn from the timeless writings of philosophers like Marcus Aurelias and Epictetus from centuries past. Few people know of Stoic beliefs, but they are so relevant that they apply so well to our current lifestyles. This book provides effective ways to deal with our anxieties. Learning how to apply these teachings to our daily lives can bring us to have more meaning and even, happiness, to our lives.

I felt conflicted upon hearing the book ask if my desired sources of happiness were fleeting. Not all were; some still bring joy. Achieving stoicism towards lesser desires is valuable. Appreciating virtues like justice is easy, and adopting a 'roll with the punches' attitude simplifies life but is difficult to achieve. Maintaining indifference is definitely challenging, but having patience will leads to success. An excellent book
