About this listen

Michael Freeman is a disabled veteran who had just been fired from his mind-numbing cubicle job, which allowed his opportunistic girlfriend to dump him. Now, he only wants to spend some time at his grandfather's mountain cabin so he can unwind, away from the drudgery of daily life and with a cold beer in his hands.

Standing in his way is an ancient spaceship with an emotional AI, nanites that have invaded his body, an international crime syndicate, a suicidal FBI agent on a vigilante mission, terrorists . . . and that's just the beginning.

What can one man do when faced with insurmountable odds? Call it quits? Or . . . call some of his old army buddies and blow those obstacles to smithereens?

Can he become more than he had ever dreamed, reaching further than any man before? Staying under the radar of the powers that be while righting a few wrongs of the modern world.

He is sure of three things: 1. He really doesn't want to follow the rules anymore . . . aside from his own; 2. Space is the ultimate frontier, and he had been given a turnkey technology to reach it—if they let him; and 3. Those that want to hurt him and the people he cares about will rue the day they were born.

A very engaging book, with similar themes to others in the genre, but different enough to be enjoyable, and lots more action.

One surprising difference is that all measurements are provided in both US (Imperial) and metric! This was very well received; as a European, it helped so much to be able to visualise the descriptions with units I recognised. I would add the author to my favourites list purely for that!

Thanks to Mr Nikolic for making the listen so enjoyable. Now, I'm off to buy the next book…

Very engaging book, lots of action

Or bobivers as its main character is a sentient ai. Like expeditionary force it’s heavy with US military perspectives also very annoyingly all measurements are given in feet and then meters, i really don’t mind which you use but both makes it sound like a construction manual. I like the concept of using the technology to fight earth based crime but I’m not sure il bother with book two.

Reminded me of silver ships or expeditionary force

It's s nice story if s little predictable and full of cliche.
The main part that stuck with me was the obsession with always giving metric and imperial measurements! It was 3 feet or 1 meters long.. Once you hear it you won't be able to ignore it!

Harmless fun

Okies. there is only so much that can be done with this genre without touching on the same or simillar themes from other books (for instance, the textbook all American hero complaint). guys, don't throw the baby out with the bath water. The idea is to provoke something in us and give us something to root for and that we can identify with (I am not American, I am however, something of a hero I suppose. not space-faring though...yet).

Just read, listen, enjoy. allow some space for similitude and don't complain just cause you can. One poor review can throw off a lot of readers

A gem in the stone...

Loved the pace and scenes with real story line
A little bit predictable male hero stereo type with girls doing the washing up

Good story
