About this listen

The Sorrows, an island off the coast of northern California, and its castle have been uninhabited since a series of gruesome murders in 1925. But its owner needs money, so he allows film composers Ben and Eddie and a couple of their female friends to stay a month in Castle Blackwood.

Eddie is certain a haunted castle is just the setting Ben needs to find inspiration for a horror film. But what they find is more horrific than any movie.

Something is waiting for them in the castle. A malevolent being has been trapped for nearly a century. And he’s ready to feed.

The story starts off fairly slow as the author is introducing all the characters and the scene but once it gets going it' doesn't let up. we have an excellent mix of loveable characters, truly loathsome individuals, ghosts and monsters. It's a blood and gore fest in the second half. I did at times find the parts where the author revisited the past for backstory a little annoying as it seemed to come from nowhere and interrupt the flow of the story but it was still enjoyable. The author is not afraid to tackle taboo subjects and the explicit nature of the book adds to the story. The plot is decent enough and the character development make this a very good horror story.

Good. worth a listen.
