About this listen
Fans of quirky, irreverent yuletide humor will screech with delight at Clarence the slug's Christmas adventure! A rude letter from a greedy child makes Santa go a bit bonkers - but it's Christmas Eve and the elves are desperate for someone to deliver all the presents! The Elf Doctor comes up with a completely mad plan to save the day - and soon the fate of Christmas depends on one giant slug! Will Clarence save the day, or will everybody's Christmas be a slime-covered nightmare? The Slug That Saved Christmas also contains a previously unreleased story - "Clarence the Slug's Lost Adventure" - along with two Hairy Tales stories ("The Walrus Story" and "Shipwreck'd Sarah"), plus a sizeable extract from The Easter Bunny Invasion!
©2014 Clifford James Hayes (P)2016 Clifford James HayesWhat did you like most about The Slug That Saved Christmas?
'The Slug that saved Christmas' is quite anarchic - though it starts out like a cutesy Xmas tale that premise doesn't last long. I'm slightly biased as I enjoyed CJH's 'Hairy Tales' too, but whatever - if you liked that, you'll like this, and vice versa. What was one of the most memorable moments of The Slug That Saved Christmas?
The giant slug eating all the sprouts to launch the sleigh into the sky. Plus all the vomit and farting. I dare say children will like it.Which character – as performed by Sheree Wichard – was your favourite?
Queen Elizabeth and all the elves and other historical characters.Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Made me chuckle a lot. And spill my coffee on someone at one point.Any additional comments?
A MODERN CHRISTMAS FABLE. Recommended.Festive silliness

Easy to follow and understand.Have you listened to any of Sheree Wichard’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Would you listen to The Slug That Saved Christmas again? Why?
Yes, at Christmas, with the kids - it combines schmaltzy Christmassyness with the kind of flashes of gross toilet humour that children love. By the way I should point out I was given this audio so I could give an impartial review - which I'm doing. What other book might you compare The Slug That Saved Christmas to, and why?
Books by David Walliams, Monty Python, Roald Dahl possibly. That kind of thing.Which character – as performed by Sheree Wichard – was your favourite?
William the Conqueror, for his sleazy gallic accent. You'll have to see why he is on the audiobook(!)Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No - best taken in chunks, as it is several stories.Perhaps it could've been longer, but then again as it's aimed (mainly) at children I'm guessing their attention span might not be long-enough if this were longer.
Any additional comments?
I'll buy the book version for my kids as a Xmas gift. More fun than trying to get a child to listen to an audio of A Christmas Carol, that's for sure. I've listened to Hairy Tales by the same author, and it is very much along the same lines.More fun than A Christmas Carol, that's for sure.

Where does The Slug That Saved Christmas rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I received this book in return for an impartial review, so here goes. It's great fun, and begins pretty much like any other Christmas story. However, things soon begin to go downhill when (Santa freaks out over a letter from a spoilt brat), and eventually it is down to Clarence ( a giant slug) to slither in and try and deliver all the presents.
I'm not really a listener of kids stories but it's enjoyable for adults also..
What did you like best about this story?
It's very unconventional - though having heard Hairy Tales it's not surprising. There are other stories on the audiobook too. What about Sheree Wichard’s performance did you like?
Carries you along nicely with the narrative, and makes you laugh with some of the accents. I enjoyed the French king (who wants to eat clarence) and the wizard elf.If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The title is all you need!Any additional comments?
Enjoyable. And kids will think so too.Free review for free Xmas audiobook

If you could sum up The Slug That Saved Christmas in three words, what would they be?
slug. christmas. funny.Who was your favorite character and why?
Mrs Claus. She's very long-suffering ;; all the men (elves and Santa) around her are completely nuts.Which scene did you most enjoy?
not sure, but theres plenty of slime and gunge that kids esp. boys) will love. It's all very Roald Dahl. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Sad when there was nothing left, when he travels into the distant future.Any additional comments?
I'd bought the book version originally, and this is better as it expands the story and adds other stories. Plus someone reads it to you, which is nice.not your average Christmas story - but that's good
