About this listen

A new type of serial killer is stalking the streets of New York - one more devious and disturbing than ever before.

They call this butcher The Skin Collector: a tattooist with a chamber of torture hidden deep underground. But instead of using ink to create each masterpiece, the artist uses a lethal poison which will render targets dead before they can even entertain the prospect of escape...

Drafted in to investigate, NYPD detective Lincoln Rhyme and his associate Amelia Sachs have little to go on but a series of cryptic messages left etched into the skin of the deceased. As the pair struggle to discover the meaning behind the designs, they are led down a treacherous and twisting path where nothing is as it seems. And with the clock rapidly ticking before the killer strikes again, they must untangle the twisted web of clues before more victims - or they themselves - are next.

Critic reviews

Outstanding . . . Deaver proves himself a grandmaster of the genre as each surprise leads to an even bigger surprise, like a series of reverse Russian nesting dolls
Another suspenseful and twist-filled entry in this always-exciting series.
Quality thriller... This is Deaver back on form
"Deavotees" will expect and gratefully receive the many twists and sudden turns . . . No one is better at narrative misdirection. Just at the point you think "That's impossible!" Deaver demonstrates the exact opposite . . . Once again the depth of his research and characterisation has created a superb example of modern American Gothic.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Skin Collector to be better than the print version?

Not read print version, so have no opinion on this.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Skin Collector?

Amelia Sachs at the initial crime scene. Being claustrophobic myself, can really appreciate her fear.

What about Jeff Harding’s performance did you like?

Again, a Master of the vocal art and a joy to listen to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and would have done if possible.

Rhyme and Sachs just get better and better!

Great listen, twists and turns all the way really get taken into the story , classic Jeffrey Deaver and brilliant narrating by Jeff Harding yet again .

Gripping

Not my usual genre but purchased on a 2 for 1 credit deal so thought I would try something different. Deaver obviously has a very large and enthusiastic fan base and I had enjoyed the film version of the bone collector. The performance was excellent and the wonderful voice of Jeff Harding kept me listening to about chapter 50 and then I started skipping through to the predictable ending. The intricate plot was unconvincing and the characters 2 dimensional. I will not be returning to Deaver .

not my cup of tea

Not a fan of American narrators.
Otherwise okay.
Will not go for the same author again. Good story but not for me
