Summary

Morse had never ceased to wonder why, with the staggering advances in medical science, all pronouncements concerning times of death seemed so disconcertingly vague.

The newly appointed member of the Oxford Examinations Syndicate was deaf, provincial and gifted. Now he is dead....

And his murder, in his north Oxford home, proves to be the start of a formidably labyrinthine case for Chief Inspector Morse, as he tries to track down the killer through the insular and bitchy world of the Oxford Colleges....

Great reading of an absorbing story

I have watched the TV series, but wasn't sure what to expect in written form. 'The Silent World of Nicholas Quinn' as a book is different, but just as enjoyable. Pleased and have already bought another in the series.

An absorbing story - the plot is improbable (the book's weakness) but fun in a murdery sort of way. Terrific atmosphere. Writing very immediate, like being there.

Beautifully read by Sam West who sensibly decides not to "ham it up" and instead puts in just enough so we can follow everything clearly, but not so much that we are robbed of using our imaginations - just the way I like a reading.

Terrific listen.

After watching the Morse series over many years and wanting read them as well, it was a real success and treat to listen to this audible.

Superb

Deftly plotted and cryptically laid out for us to try and get our heads around - Morse as superb as ever. I think I'll need to listen to this 2 or 3 times until I understand absolutely everything that's going on.

In the third book of the Inspector Morse series

In the third book of the Inspector Morse series Colin Dexter and narrator Samuel West do not disappoint. Morse's ability to gather and assess widely scattered pieces of information and connect them in a way that provides the solution to a complex riddle is second to none. Another top tier effort from Colin Dexter and a reminder of what a good idea it was to work my way though this series again.
