Summary

From the bestselling author of The Neon Lawyer comes a page-turning thriller about a scrappy lawyer and his fight for justice.

Personal injury attorney Peter Game has a reputation: cynical, untroubled by ethics, and willing to take any case, anytime, in his pursuit of the win. He dreams of a sweetheart score that’ll make his name and net him millions. Then comes the lightning rod: a school shooting just outside of Salt Lake City. His client: the devastated mother of one of the victims.

What she wants is understandable - just not simple: to sue the manufacturers of the automatic weapon used in the mass killing. Game’s opponent, brilliant lawyer Brennen Garvin, is the least of his problems: the entire legal system, influenced by decades of pressure from powerful gun lobbies, is stacked against him.

For Game, this is the case of a lifetime. He’s just not sure his trademark rules will work in his favor. And he’s not sure he wants them to. As Game’s lust for victory gives way to a hunger for justice, he could lose everything - or win back his soul.

Never underestimate desperation...

Victor Methos has written another excellent legal thriller. Will Damron narrates this book. Since he is one of my favorites I must say he did not disappoint me. His narration of this book is stellar.
As with many of Methos's books, the protagonist (Peter Game) in this book is an attorney, not exactly top of the line, more like an ambulance chaser who mostly takes on cases involving product liability and personal injury. His hopes is to get that big case so he can retire.
Instead he gets a case he knows he can meet win.
There's a school shooting and the mother of one of the deceased children wants to sue the gun manufacturer. The law is written so that people can not sue companies if their product is not used for it's intended purpose. Game takes on the case anyway and goes up against a high paid attorney way out of his league. The story that follows is a page turner!

This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS.

Best Methos legal thriller since the Neon Lawyer

Author Victor Methos writes legal and cop thrillers set in Salt Lake City. I hope this is the first novel in the Peter Game series. Both the novel and the narration are outstanding. The price is right also, especially for those with Kindle Unlimited. In any case this audio novel should be purchased at Amazon rather than Audible to get the best price.

Nothing remotely original here

I read another of this author's books and enjoyed it. There was some character development and a decent story. This book checks all the boxes of modern entertainment requirements. Anti gun, gay son, etc. Pick a stereotype and its there.

Slow start - interesting finish

This is the first Victor Methos book I listened to and at first wasn't sure if I would like the writing style. It took many chapters to build the characters but the theme of the book kept me interested. There are many themes in the book based on crazy romance, missed chances, chasing the wrong things in life, and finding justice for a school shooting.

Once the book reached mid-point, I liked the writing style but there are a few obvious directions but it didn't distract from the storyline. The main subject is a controversial subject (guns) but the author does an interesting job presenting their side of the discussion. Added in is some political action but it doesn't distract from the storyline if the reader keeps an open mind.

A school shooting with one of the victim's mom as one of the main characters adds some perspective and motive for the main subject.

The ending sets up the reader for a potential series with the main characters. Overall, it is a good book that doesn't require intense attention to understand or determine the direction and ultimate ending of the book. I listened to it while working on a remodel project that didn't require listening to each component of the story.

Typical lefty guns are the problem not the user

I couldn’t get through the book. I’m sick of blaming the inanimate object and not the user.

Just another book with the same stale story

I’m a fan of the neon lawyer - So I got this book hoping to continue listening to this character and a new storyline. The book just isn’t that interesting. Maybe there something new somewhere down towards the end, but so far it pales in comparison to other stories done way better.

Infomercial for outlawing guns

If you are a gun control advocate you'll love this book. It takes strong stands against guns, lawyers, and capitalism. It believes government makes laws to protect big business to the detriment of the little guys. It's totally one sided, but if you're on that side it's for you.
