Summary

Personal trainer Rebecca McCall is furious when her coworker is sidelined and she's forced to teach the “Be Your Best Bride” class. As if being a size two for your wedding photos is all for which exercise is good. Could the whole thing get more vain and sexist?

The class is full of preening, giggling bridezillas, but one woman stands out: the one who confesses she's only there because her fiancée signed her up. Who does that to someone about whom they care? And why can't Rebecca take her eyes off her?

Spencer Thompson is a second-guesser. After making the worst mistake of her life, she's happy to abdicate responsibility and let other people make her decisions for her. She's always felt a little bit too soft, a little bit too curvy in all the wrong places. Her fiancée apparently agrees because she signed Spencer up for a class at the gym.

Terrified by the online profile of the instructor, the epitome of zero body fat, Spencer is relieved to find someone new, and realistic-looking, leading the class. Except the instructor seems to hate her, and Spencer has no idea why.

When a perfectly innocent post-workout smoothie leads to an earth-shattering kiss, Rebecca wonders if she's been wrong all along, and Spencer is challenged to make another decision that could change her life forever.

Spoiler alert!!!!!

I finished this book 16 hours ago and it's taken me this long to decide what I want to say here. During the entire book I kept thinking, "OMG this is one of the best books. I am gonna leave a hella review." When the book was done, I wasn't sure that was still the case. This is the second book in 3 days that I have listened to by this narrator. I actually searched her because the other book was done so well. She did not disappoint during this book. She was fantastic. The characters were lovable and you could just feel the chemistry between them. The other characters were just as lovable and added to the story nicely. Here is my issue. You keep watching the chapters go by and its Spencer not choosing. They are together once, and it's brief. As the book ending is drawing near you think, "Dear God are they not going to get together?" They do, but its in the final page. You never get to see them together, happy or not. There is no view of them with each other or declarations of love. I loved this book but that fact, and the fact that Spencer had a chance to choose and she chose the other woman, left an unexpected bad taste in my mouth. Suddenly I went from loving it, to being pretty disappointed in the fact she didn't choose the main love interest, but it was chosen for her.

Bodies and Exercise

What a story! Wow wow wow! Georgia outdid herself with this one! The ending was totally unexpected and the narration was great!! I was glad to see a book about body size as most lady love books are always displaying the perfect body and fit! Wish there was a sequel as usual! Great read, story and characters! Once again Ms Beers has done it again! Get this book it’s awesome!

Eh not so much

I usually love Georgia Beers I love her books. But this one was not up to her regular standards.
Some of the characters were not well developed parts of the story line were obvious and boring.

Another great listen from GB

I’ve enjoyed every single Georgia Beers book I’ve listened too. She captures the characters so nicely.
This book is about Spencer, a woman who has been burned by the past (as most of us have been). She is now in an engagement with her partner of 2 yrs that isn’t fulfilling for either of them. The fiancé signs her up for a class to lose some weight before their quick courthouse wedding without her knowledge. Obviously, hurt and blindsided but too late to be refunded, she begrudgingly attends the classes. The normal instructor has become ill so another instructor takes over the class. Cue Rebecca. There is a connection eventually, as the 12 week class rolls along.
Confused and struggling with her feeling for another woman, Spencer has some difficult decisions to make and struggles with her moral compass, but it all works out in the end.
As hard as it is to read about the mistakes we make in weak moments, this is a great listen. You’ll get some laughs, feel some flutters, and experience a bit a sadness. I can recommend anything by GB and this narrator sounds awesome! Lori Prince, I’ll be listening to some more of you soon!

The Best of Georgia Beers

This book is amazing. It’s very real. Everything is not always sunshine and roses, and people are flawed and make mistakes. This is a wonderful illustration of the way life works.
