About this listen

In 1944, American naval officer Lt. Wyatt Paxton arrives in London to prepare for the Allied invasion of France. He works closely with Dorothy Fairfax, a "Wren" in the Women's Royal Naval Service. Dorothy pieces together reconnaissance photographs with thousands of holiday snapshots of France - including those of her own family's summer home - in order to create accurate maps of Normandy. Maps that Wyatt will turn into naval bombardment plans.

As the two spend concentrated time together in the pressure cooker of war, their deepening friendship threatens to turn to love. Dorothy must resist its pull. Her bereaved father depends on her, and her heart already belongs to another man. Wyatt too has much to lose. The closer he gets to Dorothy, the more he fears his efforts to win the war will destroy everything she has ever loved. The tense days leading up to the monumental D-Day landing blaze to life under Sarah Sundin's practiced pen with this powerful new series.

As others have said, this ok story was completely spoilt by the American narrator. Whilst she put on a great English accent for the English characters, her American pronunciation of certain words - Edinburrow, dooty, Dorthy, etc - was cringeworthy and almost made me give up, it grated so much. Such a shame.

Spoilt by narrator

My expectaions were met insofar the british warorganisation was described but american cChristianity overpowered the true british dark humour and reasoning, making the novelcleggy

British WW II novel with american religiousity

The narrator is unable to pronounce UK English. Some inaccuracies are totally acceptable but she cannot pronounce key words - Dorothy, Lawrence, Edinburgh. It grated so badly I’m driven to leave a bad review!

Terrible narration

An enjoyable ‘read’ that had a good story line. Would have been good to use more ‘facts’ which are widely available and adapted around them.

Found the poor pronunciation of English / Scottish place names etc. annoying as was incorrect for the British character(s) and this did spoil it. Also why are the English characters using American vocabulary? after all it’s set in an era when Brits didn’t use any American English.

Looking forward to the next book in the series and ‘grifting my teeth’ in preparation for the mispronunciation of English place names etc.

Hard to put down….

Enjoyed the plot.
The narration grated on me, somehow the American pronunciations sounded worse when done in a British accent.

Nice Story
