Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
When single mum Joanna hears a rumour at the school gates, she never intends to pass it on. But one casual comment leads to another and now there's no going back . . .
Rumour has it that a notorious child killer is living under a new identity, in their sleepy little town of Flinstead-on-Sea.
Sally McGowan was just ten years old when she stabbed little Robbie Harris to death forty-eight years ago - no photos of her exist since her release as a young woman.
So who is the supposedly reformed killer who now lives among them? How dangerous can one rumour become? And how far will Joanna go to protect her loved ones from harm, when she realizes what it is she's unleashed?
IF YOU'VE ALREADY DEVOURED THE RUMOUR THEN LOOK OUT FOR THE DARE, THE CAPTIVATING THRILLER FROM LESLEY KARA.

I really liked it. had no reviews so I went on the title and description as I do at times. bit predictable. or I always guess the killer to soon out of habit. but really enjoyed this book.

Predictable and boring
Had high hopes for this after the reviews - but it was boring, narration was bland and the outcome - which I never try to guess as I enjoy the journey was blatantly obvious very early on.
Waste of a credit

the story never really gets going
it was ok, quite predictable and as for the final twist you will see it coming a mile off

Boring, predictable and a bit silly
I had high hopes of this book but actually found it to be a very tedious 7plus hours. In retrospect, I should have given up after I guessed the plot about 50 minutes in. This book moved very slowly with lots of tedious dialogue and details of small children's day to day lives. The main characters were very one dimensional and there were so many superfluous women involved in the rumor I lost track of who they were. I had no sense of Joanna or her partner (who had a very strange voice) they were very one dimensional. Really very little happens throughout the book just the repetition of the rumor among the community. Very disappointing and the end was particularly silly.

Can we ever have a book without hysterical women?
I love crime & thrillers but I can't take a crying whining screaming irrational woman in each book.
otherwise the story is fine.

Excellent
Excellent story, great twist(s).
The pace is relentless, well drawn characters, deserves to be a huge hit.

Predicable and boring
Characters were unrealistic. I could see the "twist" if you can call it that a mile off. The author seems to have what borders on a fetish for black men and feels the need to keep inserting it when it has no bearing or relevance to the plot. Very dull, struggled to finish, never felt drawn in or involved in the story.

Bland
Not a great book. Bland, unlikable characters, strange narration, boring ending. The voice of Michael was terrible ! Alfie had a snivelling pathetic voice. It was a plot of paranoia and hysterics. People mention the great twists.....unfortunately one was really really obvious and the other I couldn't have cared less by the time the major reveal took place. I just felt glad it was nearly over. I genuinely didn't like any character. Sorry, I can't recommend this to anyone.

Not the best
I found the story’s little tedious and formulaic. Unfortunately I wasn’t impressed compared to what else is out there.

Pointless mild racism was off putting
I love Clare Corbett and got this book for her performance. The story isn't much, I thought it sounded like an interesting concept but in the end it didn't really have that many surprises or high stakes. I found the main character to be annoying actually, what with her need to constantly comment on Michael's "black skin." If the author was trying to describe Michael she might have tried humanizing him. After all, people of color (Black people) don't actually have black skin. Descriptive words like caramel, honey, sun-kissed or even chocolate might have helped where Michael's description was concerned. Honestly, I don't know if it was the author who was revealing her own bias or if it was the author's intention to make her lead character so glaringly ignorant but it all made me very uncomfortable and took me out of the story. Even the part where the character hinted at her mom's possible racism was quite grating given none of that was actually vital to the story. Poor Michael wasn't even developed enough to warrant this much attention. He literally could've just been any random guy with a British accent and it wouldn't have mattered what he looked like since we never actually learn anything about him, his family, his background. Overall, the story was flat. I can't see anyone really caring that much about something that happened so long ago to the point where the culprit had to go in hiding. Completely unbelievable. Think I'll have to return this book.
