Summary

A sexy stand-alone novel from New York Times and international best-selling author Elle Kennedy.

Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right - I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team.

And that’s who Jake Connelly is. Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel - I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.

I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.

For every fake date…he wants a real one.

Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.

That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.

Really didn’t do it for me

This was really missing something. Didn’t really feel the relationship and the whole book seemed a bit emotionally immature. Jake’s ego and selfishness were just really annoying. There’s something quite boring about two good looking universally adored people getting together. And I know it’s college life but the whole book was just obsessed with getting laid which was dull too. Perhaps I’ve just matured past these books? I used to love Elle Kennedy. Still love Sarina Bowen books though so maybe it’s just this particular series that’s a dud for me.

Another winner

After listening to the first book in this series I knew that I wanted more of these characters. And this second book definitely hits the mark. It’s not so much an enemies to lovers storyline as it is rivals to lovers.
As always, Teddy Hamilton does a wonderful job with the narration and I’m always a fan of Virginia Rose.

The chemistry!

I LOVED Brenna and Jake's flirty banter so much!!

I LOVED their blunt honesty every time they couldn't help themselves and told each other that they were hot. They both knew it and that confidence carried over to the reader. I could feel it and that honesty was so freaking attractive to me.

I LOVED that Jake was so touchy-feely all the time.

I LOVE Jake and omg I think I LOVE Brenna, the female main character even more than the male one, which basically never ever happens. They are officially my new favorite couple out of all the Elle Kennedy's books (that I've read), trumping Hannah and Garrett from The Deal.

Why I couldn't give the full 5 stars:
The ending was a huge let down to me. I wanted a cute or flirty banter scene with the main couple.
This one felt rushed - they made up and that was their last scene together. It left me so disappointed like, "that's it?". Their relationship reminded me somewhat of Connor and Rose's in Kiss the Sky, but all the drama at the end made me somehow forget their banter at the beginning which made the book so good.

The narration was great! The best yet but I'm only a newbie and listened to 3 audiobooks so far, so I don't have that many narrators to compare Teddy Hamilton and Virginia Rose to. Still, they were really good and I will listen to more works of them in the future!

Loved It

Where I was not a huge fan of The Chase, I loved The Risk! This was definitely more true to the Off Campus series and had elements within the story which I loved in her previous books. Yes! Sarcasm, fake relationships, and sarcasm! You get to see the development of the relationship between Brenna and Jake. This is what I missed in the first book. I just love banter between love relationships, and both characters give us just that. This also brings more to the story than just a romance. There are issues with family relationships, drugs, pregnancy, and friendship. It had a little bit of everything. This is more of what I expect out of Elle Kennedy and I pray book three stays on this path. Overall, I loved this one so much!!

Not for me

I usually love Elle Kennedy and her Brian U books are some of my all time favorites, but not this time. I found Brenna to be completely unlikeable. I didn't like the way she treated the people around her, or the way some of them treated her. The kicker for me was when she went to visit her cousin and had some time to kill alone in a quiet dorm room. She is supposed to be at a prestigious university and presumably has some actual work to do. Homework maybe? Instead Brenna chose to spend several hours scrolling through Tinder, just so guys could tell her how hot she is, even though she had no interest in meeting anyone. Her internal dialog was more about her hair, clothes and general hotness than any real substance. Even the heavenly voice of Teddy Hamilton couldn't save this one for me. Sorry. Done. Returning.
