It was great to take another mindtrip into the tortuous brain of Jacko Vance as the team struggle to stop him on his rampage. Fast-paced, lots of twists and turns, everything that I would expect from a Tony Hill book by this author. True, no happy endings (yet), but I continue to hope! It had me listening at every opportunity!

I'm half-way through this book, and the narration spoils it for me.

A lot of characters sound as if they're 'shocked' or 'affronted' in every sentence which makes difficult listening. Plus, as a person from Newcastle, I had to laugh out loud at the Geordie accent. Note to the narrator - if you can't do it, don't even try!

This late McDermid is one of the best in the Tony Hill — Carol Jordan series. Most of the police staff is well known from books and TV but some parts of the puzzle in the strange relation between the protagonists get their explication here. The question now is if Carols decision to break with Tony is going to be fulfilled or how their relationship might become restored. A cliff hanger if there ever was one for the fans of psychological mysteries.

What did you like most about The Retribution?

I hadn't read or listened to any of the series, or seen any of the TV series, but it didn't matter. The story gets going straight away, great characters, decent narration, loved it.

Any additional comments?

The narrator does a good job most of the time, but some of the accents are a bit duff
