About this listen

A hyper-fast quantum computer is the digital equivalent of a nuclear bomb; whoever possesses one will be able to shred any encryption and break any code in existence. The winner of the race to build the world's first quantum machine will attain global dominance for generations to come. The question is, who will cross the finish line first: the U.S. or China?

In this gripping cyber thriller, the United States' top-secret quantum research labs are compromised by a suspected Chinese informant, inciting a mole hunt of history-altering proportions. CIA officer Harris Chang leads the charge, pursuing his target from the towering cityscape of Singapore to the lush hills of the Pacific Northwest, the mountains of Mexico and beyond. The investigation is obsessive, destructive and, above all, uncertain.

Do the leaks expose real secrets, or are they false trails meant to deceive the Chinese? The answer forces Chang to question everything he thought he knew about loyalty, morality and the primacy of truth.

Great story, gripping reader. I’m off now to search out more by Mr Ignatius! Thank you, Audible.

This is a complex, intricate yet ultimately unsatisfying story. Well researched, highly educational and intriguing.

Notwithstanding all of the above, I didn’t enjoy the story. I didn’t like the outcome, I ultimately felt cheated. But as I cannot give spoilers, I cannot fully articulate my reasons. I feel like saying: “it’s not fair!”

I guess that I like ‘Happy Ever After’

I was looking for a Le Carre type spy novel for the new generation and the status quo of today, and this book came highly recommended. Started well enough, but the longer I read the more juvenile it became. Got stuck on all the wrong things and the story line became almost like it was written by a 18yo that used AI. Most characters are a caricature of what a spy and a director or a honey trap would be, there's holes everywhere in the narrative and the ethical dilemmas are a joke. The narrator does a good job though, and the action is fast enough to be semi engaging. You've been warned.

starts well enough, but it disappoints...
