Summary
The explosive behind-the-scenes account of the plot to bring down Boris Johnson
YOU THINK YOU LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE THE ELECTED ARE CHOSEN BY THE PEOPLE.
THINK AGAIN.
When Boris Johnson came to power in 2019, he did so with the largest Conservative majority since Margaret Thatcher. Rewriting the political map, he united a party and shattered Labour’s fabled red wall. And yet, just three years later, he was ousted by the same members who had once greeted his leadership so rapturously.
What had gone so wrong?
The Plot is the seismic, fly-on-the-wall account of how the saviour of the Conservative Party became a pariah. Told with unparalleled access, from multiple inside sources talking with astonishing candour, it reveals the shocking truth about powerful forces operating behind the scenes in the heart of Westminster and those who became the architects of a Prime Minister’s downfall.
This is the story of a damning trail of treachery and deceit fuelled by an obsessive pursuit of power, which threatens to topple the very fabric of our democracy.

Dreadful hagiography of Boris Johnson
The literary style of a 14 year old's diary meets Barbera Cartland. Everything was someone else's fault rather than Boris'. Boris was brave and kind and nice. Every decision he made was the right one. I kid you not this garbage doesn't stop. Do yourself a favour and don't buy this.

Written by Boris Johnson
Better suited to the fantasy section. Dorries succeeds only in publishing what can only be described as an almost religious tome in worship of Boris Johnson; a man she would have us believe has only virtuous faults and who is driven by public service.
With no hint of objectivity, this title takes its readers for fools to the extent it becomes fiction. And bad fiction at that.

This woman needs professional help …
I started listening to this out of vague interest, following it all the recent hype.
Currently paused partway through - and not sure if if I can be bothered to continue.
What a sad, delusion and hysterical read.
Somewhere in there is probably the germ of an interesting tale of someone whose charmed life (with the obligatory ‘I was born to humble folk and lived in a COUNCIL HOUSE’ shoehorned in throughout) falls apart around her as she discovers that she has hitched herself to the wrong posh-boy, who let her down …
Unfortunately, it develops into a rambling, hysterical whinge, peopled with real and mysterious (fantasy?) characters and situations.
Poor Boris. He tried (in her version) so hard to devote his entire life to the service of others and to keep everyone safe during the Pandemic.
Unfortunately, even the early stages of recent formal investigation has blown that part of the fairytale out of the water.
I hope for her sake that this tawdry tale brings in sufficient funds to cover the foreseeable legal cases, as much of her ranting is surely libellous, with even the unnamed characters being easily identified to those in the know.

Garbage, badly told
Meandering, bitter, barely coherent.
You wonder what a Tory Mp was doing for decades, that she now suddenly appears surprised as to how her party has been run all that time. Weren’t you paying attention, Nadine?

Easy listening
I m have no real perspective on the issues Nadine raises but the story told here was fairly interesting and the narrator brings the material to life in a compelling and personal way. There are times when characters feel “heroically” portrayed when the author appears a bit close to them or holds them in very high reverence. I found it interesting to compare this to Politics on the Edge which felt more tangible.

Superb
A great book and full from start to finish with a well researched account of the really dim depths that politics has fallen to. Deeply saddening that in that process a great PM was used as a pawn in narcissistic games. One that resulted in someone as useless as Rishi Sunak becoming PM. Well done Nadine for writing it. Karma will hopefully take them all down.

If it’s true, it’s scary!!
Quite a shocking read, if it’s all true. Nadine is a massive friend to Boris so thus may well be biased. However the scheming is very believable and after googling some information I have found it to be very credible

The downfall of Boris and the conservative party
A brilliant book, Enjoyed it so much. The narrative sounded so much like Nadine. The only disappointing thing is I don’t think I can never vote conservative again

Loved it
A great audio book, was really enjoying listening to the plot unraveling in front of us. Very well explained and laid out. There were answers to all the twists and turns of the last few years at Westminster.

More stodge than plot
After listening to this book I am left with more questions than answers.
A good one might be how comes this book lasts over ten hours when largely it just repeats the same (largely unsubstantiated) information over and over?
The body of the book is a series of interviews with almost no one being named. These interviews make a number of allegations against a few people who are named, and the odd one or two who are not.
This leads to a number of other questions such as why name people such as Dominic Cummings, Micheal Gove etc but leave a shadowy figure known as "Doctor No" unnamed?
If you're sure of your ground why not "publish and be damned?"
As I wrote earlier, the main body of this book is a number of allegations made in interview by people who prefer not to be named against a number of political players (one of them being the current Prime Minister) which tends to tread the same ground over and over until the listener can pretty much predict the next line coming.
So there it is! The short version! Unlike the highly padded book.
Whilst the book itself is long winded and somewhat boring it does pose a question not contained within its pages.
Why have none of the people named (and unnamed) come out and refuted the contents and allegations?

Great book - eyes opened very wide
Well written, very persuasive and deeply troubling. Explains so many occurrences, decisions that seemed impenetrable at the time.
I suppose we expect politics to be Machiavellian but I was unsophisticated enough to think that the good of the people occasionally crept on to politicians’ radar. Only when the politician is exceptional, it seems.
Like pretty much everyone, I always liked snd respected Boris - he is wrong about climate alarm, but right to gain nationally from global insanity and wrong about the vaccine but right to use vaccination to avoid lockdown…at the end of the day, he’s not a scientist-it’s easy to be bamboozled by both the climate lobby and big pharma.
I’m not sure “enjoy” is the right word but I’m very pleased to have listened to this. I’ll give it a couple of weeks then listen again, I think.
