Summary

Ebony had a secret...an ill-advised relationship with a married man in the church sent Ebony down a path of regret, which led to an unplanned pregnancy. When the pressure of being the pastor's daughter and carrying a married man's child weighs upon her, emotions flare. Shortly afterwards, she threatens to publicize the entire affair, deciding to bear the consequences of the matter.

After an untimely event, and unprecedented conviction, Ebony is forced to confess as she battles with thoughts of betrayal to God, the church, and herself.

Strong message, unnecessary bible-bashing

I didn't enjoy the way the author used this book as a soap box from which she felt the need to prescribe her own views on the listener. As she herself states in the course of the book, this story is not about her or her experiences, but is intended as a means to convey her own message. This is something she does very forcefully and unequivocally. I think that the book's description is too vague and short on details, since it does not convey the author's intention and motive in writing this book. Thankfully, the book itself was short, so it had that in its favour.

That having been said, I can't fault the narrator's work on this audiobook, which was excellent. Her voice and character-work was a perfect match for the material she had to work with, and I commend her for this.
