About this listen

"The Nose" is the second best known story of Gogol, after "The Overcoat". A military major discovers his nose is missing and works to recover it. He finds the nose but it pretends to have a life of its own, as a fellow human. It in fact has a higher rank than the Major himself. The Major is perplexed, goes back to his apartment, and has the nose returned to him. With great joy he recovers his nose, only to find it won't reattach to his face. After much going on, he finds the nose reattached to his face. The fun of the story are the goings on, which have made this a favorite of all readers of Russian literature.

I am a great fan of russian literature and drama. What a splendid opportunity to be able to listen to that rather then the pop at the gym. But the narration by Mr Deaver Brown is the worst I have ever heard in my life, this should not be published and sold. I am not used to write this kind of critics so to you that wants to buy this do not, read it your self or find it with another narrator.

Great book, horrible narration.

Any additional comments?

The story was very good, I love Gogol, however, the quality of the recording is very bad, it sounds like the narrator recorded this on an iphone on a train. The narrator kept stumbling over words, had a very monotone american accent and there was a lot of background noise.

The quality is so bad it is distracting.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A narrator who can pronounce Russian words and inject some feeling into the rendition.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Deaver Brown?

Anyone other than Deaver Brown

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The whole experience was ruined by bad narration. I felt the narrator was a total amateur. It was excrutiating to hear such a great novella butchered. This audio book should not be on sale.

Any additional comments?

Awful, awful awful!

Disappointing
