Real heartbreak is unmistakable. We think of nothing else. We feel nothing else. We care about nothing else. Yet while we wouldn't expect someone to return to daily activities immediately after suffering a broken limb, heartbroken people are expected to function normally in their lives, despite the emotional pain they feel. Now psychologist Guy Winch imagines how different things would be if we paid more attention to this unique emotion - if only we can understand how heartbreak works, we can begin to fix it.

This book is my hero - 100% recommended!
I came across this book after finally feeling enough was enough having felt trapped for a couple of years in a "relationship" (I use the term loosely for various reasons) which had an incredibly toxic and repetitive cycle.
This cycle included me being ghosted or criticised when things got too intense/close for him, me then deciding I didn't deserve to be treated so childishly, then after a certain duration he would gradually work his way back with humour, flirtation, or pity/depression. I was also completely gaslit along the way. Meanwhile, I couldn't easily "break-free", because I had to see this person on a daily basis.
I was so saddened to see that so many books in this theme focus on ignoring the guy to win the guy... I guess this philosophy is used to sell books to women who feel lost on this journey, but it is absolutely not what I wanted or needed. What I needed was a tool to help my diminished sense of self-worth, my mental health and to stop crying wolf with empty threats of "enough!", only to fall back into the same toxic cycle without moving on.
This book massively helped me with this process, whilst also keeping my dignity intact (where I have admittedly previously lost it). I've saved so many clips from it which I now playback to remind me of the pain inflicted on me whenever I feel "wobbly", and they continue to help put me back on track everytime I feel weak.
The only thing I would prefer to see are some actual titles to the chapters, as not all chapters are relevant to all scenarios (eg. do you have children, are you co-workers etc). The narrator, pace & personal experience of the author are all incredibly well executed.

A tonic
If you know that you are vulnerable to a ping-pong relationship and you really want to be free of the pain of it, this book is great. It is very affirming, just like having a friend in your corner helping you find your inner strength.
Of course all the hard work is to come, but the author is very realistic. She paints a picture of freedom from the tyranny of that sort of relationship that is both attractive and a bit scary.
The narrator is great for this book and listening to it is probably more powerful than reading it. If you think you need this book then let me wish you luck.

Highly recommend even if you don't need to ...
...go "no contact" ...yet or any longer as this is just a very honest guide to recalibrate what is and isn't okay in relationships, romantic or platonic. I think this book is full of relationships hacks too, as knowing how to establish and respect boundaries, mine and that of my ex/partner, is handy to know at any stage of a relationship or breakup.
I like this book especially because of the focus ans tone, as it avoids pointing fingers at the X type of terrible Ex and doesn't pamper the ego by "you're already brilliant and perfect" it's just the Ex. I found that very refreshing and I guess it is an atypical self help book in general. I really enjoyed this no-nonsense approach - not only was it a good and needed reminder that much of the pain is homemade and we got our hands stuck in the dough too, but also that we can pull them out ANY time ...and what it means if we don't and what to do next. Fool-in-love-proved and tested!!
And apart from instructions on how to go NC in every imaginable situation one could possibly be in, there are so many more useful tips and checks in here that make the book worth buying. So whether one needs a practical how-to guide to retain/regain ones integrity and self-respect or help with getting a grip on all those nagging thoughts, habits, hurts and dynamics developed during a tricky relationship or over a lifetime, then this is the book! I wish, in fact, that I had found it sooner and I will certainly keep listening to this book again (...and again), so if you're undecided, don't be, IT'S SO WORTH IT!!!

A very good listen.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who needs that gentle reminder to love themselves. NC to me basically means avoid the distractions. Avoid thinking about the other person, and instead think about yourself! I liked the part where she says (and I'm paraphrasing): "Happiness equates to a positive sense of self, and will lead you into situations where people vibrate with the positive you." Because no one likes to be around a Debbie downer! Lol
Good book, great narration. 5 starts.

I can not recomment this book highly enough!
If you could sum up The No Contact Rule in three words, what would they be?
Extremely helpful for someone going through a breakup, especially when your live isn't returned
Who was your favorite character and why?
N/A
What about Lucy Price-Lewis’s performance did you like?
Her information and how she presented it
What did you learn from The No Contact Rule that you would use in your daily life?
How to maintain healthy relationship balance and not let yourself be taken advantage of.
Any additional comments?
As someone who has been in an unhealthy, imbalanced (not in my favor) relationship for two years, I can say this is very useful information. Not groundbreaking in that I have heard a lot of it before. But it's all here, in one book. If you are in an imbalanced relationship you probably know it or at least strongly suspect it. You are not going to like a lot of what is said as I don't. I am currently having to walk away from someone I love with every ounce of my soul but that is not good for me and has never truly valued me as a person. I feel for anyone in this situation as I know how painful it is. But if you want to recover and have something healthy with someone who does appreciate you, what she tells you in this book is absolutely necessary.

Eye opening
If you are going through a divorce or a break up, this is for you.
I just left my abusive marriage and almost went back to him. trying to stay strong and believing that I did the right decision is hard.
Listen to this. it opened my eyes and I now see that deserve so much better and that he would ve never changed. It helped me not to contact him anymore. Moving out of our house and handling divorce with barely any contact.
I can't wait to go full NC when the divorce is final.
Thanks to this book I learned to listen to my needs and stop caring about him, somone who never appreciated me anyway.

Ok, but a bit repetitive
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes - it's good if you are struggling with a break up and need to know you;re not the only one who goes through this stuff! It talks alot about why you shouldn't contact them, but kind of lacks things to do instead of contacting them other than 'going out with friends' which isn't always what you feel like doing.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Just summarises and repeats what has already been said (quite a few times) already.
Have you listened to any of Lucy Price-Lewis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Did The No Contact Rule inspire you to do anything?
It just reassured me that how I feel is normal and OK. I could relate to many of the things she talked about.

The friend you need!!!
When you are going through a breakup and vulnerable those who love you can't always be straight with you. This book is what you need to hear. It is the hard truth you need but also sage advice. You don't necessarily need to cut contact to take something from this book because she knows all of the bullshit you are trying to work through.
She does a great job of explaining everything in a way that is practical and understandable. She cannot tell you how YOU need to go about moving on, she just frames what you are going through in ways that will give you perspective.
If you are struggling with the end or soon-to-be-end of any relationship, buy this book and put on repeat!

good story but.....
What made the experience of listening to The No Contact Rule the most enjoyable?
it wasnt enjoyable because of the narrator. I could handle listening to her no longer than maybe 20 minutes at a time. Its a Shame.
What did you like best about this story?
I really like the story.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
how many cups of coffee did the narrator have????? Talks way too fast. Listening to her was torture.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I wanted to, but couldnt. That pitch, that voice.....too much Speed!

good story.
a lot pertained to who I used to be and who I became. stronger. smarter, wiser. a lot of stuff I'm already doing by blocking all Contact from the ex and moving on, processing all the stages of grieve and my emotion. a lot applies to the ex in how clingy, needy, Codependant he is an refused to give up making the healing process hard for me and himself. wish I could share this book with him but then I'd be breaking the "NC" ;). just have to let him work on him for him, himself cuz I have to work on mine. :)
