About this listen

The nail-biting vampire thriller from the world-famous director of Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy. Now a popular Amazon TV show.

The night belongs to them, and it will be a night eternal…

After the blasts, it was all over. Nuclear Winter has settled upon the earth. Except for one hour of sunlight a day, the whole world is plunged into darkness. It is a near-perfect environment for vampires. They have won. It is their time.

Almost every single man, woman and child has been enslaved in vast camps across the globe. Like animals, they are farmed, harvested for the sick pleasure of the Master Race.

Almost, but not all. Somewhere out there, hiding for their lives, is a desperate network of free humans, continue the seemingly hopeless resistance. Everyday people, with no other options – among them Dr Ephraim Goodweather, his son Zack, the veteran exterminator Vassily, and former gangbanger Gus.

To be free, they need a miracle, they need divine intervention. But Salvation can be a twisted game – one in which they may be played like pawns in a battle of Good and Evil. And at what cost…?

Critic reviews

Praise for THE NIGHT ETERNAL:

‘A devilishly good read, full of satisfying scares’ Stephen King

Praise for THE FALL:
‘The climax, all fire and brimstone, nicely sets up the third and final volume’ Financial Times

‘Enough blood-curdling action to set up a gory finale’ News of the World

‘Relentlessly paves the way for what promises to be an epic third book’ Kirkus

Praise for THE STRAIN:
‘A near-flawless thriller’ News of the World

‘A rattling piece of escapism’ The Times

‘The first in a trilogy that soars with spellbinding intrigue. Truly, an unforgettable tale you can’t put down once you read the first page. I can’t wait until the next one.’ Clive Cussler

‘Blood and apocalypse mix in a terrifying story that feels like it was ripped from today's headlines. Vividly wrought and relentlessly paced, THE STRAIN haunts as much as it terrifies. I cannot wait to see where Del Toro and Hogan take us next.’ James Rollins

‘Diverting and never less than expertly crafted’ Guardian

Here's hoping they write more of this calibre.
In the end I didn't mind Ron only did the first one.

Outstanding trilogy

final part of the strain trilogy. for fans of the tv series and who liked it you'll be disappointed. the book goes in an entirely different direction. personally i thought the book was much more accomplished, and far more enjoyable.

awesome

I did enjoy this, but have to say I prefer the direction the tv show went with the story. still worthy of 5*s though!

Enjoyable

I think that 3 books it's probably too much for this story. It could have been two quite easily. What I listened to I enjoyed but it was a little long and meandering. The book was well read and a nice pace. The ending to the trilogy is more of a fizzle than a bang. It is worth listening to for some interesting characters.

Three books is a bit much for the subject

I have listened to this before and now after the TV show and as often the case the book is far better. I have pictures of the characters in my as those from the TV show.

From the pick, pick….. of Sardu’s cane in volume 1 to the ending ( I won’t mention as it is different from TV ) the characters are given life without in depth descriptions of their looks but by their actions and viewpoints.

As a fan of Terry Pratchett I love footnotes but here we have asides some like an entwined story and some diary entries. They don’t occur as often as TPs but you do look forward to the next

One slightly negative comment is that the switch of chapters, signalled by the change in location, run together and perhaps a little more of a pause is needed.

A great listen, narration is superb and appropriate

A Far Better Ending than the TV Show
