A washed-up treasure hunter, a hotshot racer, and a deadly secret society. They're all on a race against time to hunt down the greatest warship ever built. Some think the ship is lost forever, some think it's been destroyed, and some think it's only a legend, but one thing's for certain: whoever finds it will hold the fate of the universe in their hands. And treasure that valuable can never stay hidden for long....

In the 23rd century, humanity is enjoying a comparative utopia. Yet life on Earth is about to change forever. Feriton Kane’s investigative team has discovered the worst threat ever to face mankind, and we’ve almost no time to fight back. The supposedly benign Olyix plan to harvest humanity, in order to carry us to their god at the end of the universe. And as their agents conclude schemes down on earth, vast warships converge above to gather this cargo. Some factions push for humanity to flee, to live in hiding amongst the stars, although only a chosen few would make it out in time.

The city of Tevanne runs on scrivings, industrialised magical inscriptions that make inanimate objects sentient; they power everything, from walls to wheels to weapons. Scrivings have brought enormous progress and enormous wealth - but only to the four merchant Houses who control them. Everyone else is a servant or slave, or they eke a precarious living in the hellhole called the Commons. There's not much in the way of work for an escaped slave like Sancia Grado, but she has an unnatural talent that makes her one of the best thieves in the city.

An action-packed postapocalyptic thriller from the critically acclaimed author, screenwriter, and noted film critic. Humankind is extinct. Wiped out in a global uprising by the very machines made to serve them. Now the world is controlled by One World Intelligences - vast mainframes that have assimilated the minds of millions of robots. But not all robots are willing to cede their individuality, and Brittle - a loner and scavenger, focused solely on survival - is one of the holdouts.

Summary
Teenager Miranda Candle finds a mysterious necklace and is suddenly transported to The Nex, the bizarre city at the center of all possible universes, where she falls in with a pair of would-be revolutionaries - the skinshifter Howlaa and the bodiless Wisp - fighting the oppressive regime of the city-state's Regent and his army of steam colossi, cynical cyborgs, and the depraved royal orphans.

Fun Story, not great telling
What made the experience of listening to The Nex the most enjoyable?
This was a really fun story. Renee Chambliss was great.
What aspect of Renee Chambliss’s performance would you have changed?
Her performance was great. Unfortunately several other voices were added. Only a very few fit the characters they portrayed. The others weren't very good. If it had just been Renee Chambliss it would have been 5 stars all the way. She should have been allowed to do all the voices.

Great story
Loved this story. If I had to compare it to something it would be the Wizard of Oz. It has a little of everything including a happy ending. The voices of characters were all well done and suited their character. If you listen to fantasy or sci-fi podcasts then you will recognize most of these experienced readers. This is a light, quick listen. Would definitely get the next one if they produce one. Good job guys!!
