About this listen
We all think we know who we are. What we’re capable of. Roz is a single mother, a physiotherapist, a sister, a friend. She’s also desperate. Her business has gone under, she’s crippled by debt and she’s just had to explain to her son why someone’s taken all their furniture away.
But now a stranger has made her an offer. For one night with her, he’ll pay enough to bring her back from the edge. Roz has a choice to make.
©2015 Paula Daly (P)2015 Isis Publishing LtdThere was a lot going on in this book - debt, marriage breakdown, fraud, adultery, payment for sex, murder, blackmail, reckless driving to identify but a few and I wondered if there was perhaps a bit too much crammed in, so that some credibility of motive and intent was lost.
As a result of this, the book was slightly spoilt for me by a number of events which didn't quite ring true such as the immediate nature of the 'indecent proposal' and the context of an attack which led to murder which was less than convincing to me. I wondered if the book had been written in a bit of a hurry or even had been Paula's first novel which hadn't quite worked but was brought out off the back of the success of her first two published novels. I thought Paula's first two novels were very good and had been looking forward to this one.
Overall I was still drawn in by the story's pace and the quality of the telling of the story of the everyday events of the characters' lives - this is one of the author's great strengths for me because the nature of that detail in those contexts is so realistic.
Although slightly disappointed with this novel I still look forward to Paula Daly's next book!

Another Captivating Story.

Thrillers are supposed to have a murder aren't they. I was left waiting for some time wondering about that.
I'll be looking to ready the author's next book and hope in continues in the same vein as her first three set around the Lakes, with DS Aspinal in the background.
...Quite a lot of mistakes actually.
