Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The new high-concept thriller from the author of the word-of-mouth sensation The One.

Five strangers guard our secrets. Only four can be trusted....

In the 21st century, information is king. But computers can be hacked and files can be broken into - so a unique government initiative has been born. Five ordinary people have been selected to become Minders - the latest weapon in thwarting cyberterrorism. Transformed by a revolutionary medical procedure, the country's most classified information has been taken offline and turned into genetic code implanted inside their heads.

Together, the five know every secret - the truth behind every government lie, conspiracy theory and cover-up. In return, they’re given the chance to leave their problems behind and a blank slate to start their lives anew.

But not everyone should be trusted, especially when they each have secrets of their own they’ll do anything to protect....

Too complicated

The underlying story is good, but i just found it too complicated to remember who was who and what was happening. Writing this review now... I realise I couldn't tell anyone about the plot (lucky for some).

The Minders

Wow it's been a while since a book has captured my attention so intensely. Wonderful characters each one and such an intricately crafted story. A true talent keep them coming Mr Marrs.

Strong scfi thriller once again!

Everything John Marrs writes is full of twists and turns blending human empathy with killer twists.
The Minders is no disappointment. It follows more of his scfi style like ' The One' and 'The Passengers' which I enjoyed immensely.
Narration is very good with good expressions.
Enjoy the story.

An Interesting Read

I really like John Marrs writing and have already enjoyed a lot of his books.. this was no exception. Really great concept. Once I remembered who the different characters were.. I was Ok. Futuristic, slightly dystopian with a touch of hope.

Neutral feelings! 4 stars still

Definitely there was a HUGE amount of effort put into writing book. I did not manage to feel attached to any of the characters though

Excellent, very good story

I saw this whilst browsing for something new. intrigued I thought I would give it a try. It was brilliant, I really enjoyed it and finished it within a couple of days. Excellent storyline, well read/performed except for a few badly dubbed bits. I would recommend this audiobook.

Another fantastic book from Marrs

I am a massive fan of John Marrs and was so pleased to see another release from him.

The Minders did not disappoint in anyway. Lots of characters with believable back stories; twists and turns along the way; love and loss.

Just can’t wait now until the next book comes out.

John Marrs fans will not be disappointed.

More Action Thriller than Sci-Fi

I spent much of the book thinking this would be better as an ITV drama than an audiobook, only to find the first book in the series has indeed been made into a series by Netflix. Although as a geneticist, the references in ‘Minders’ to the premise of ‘The One’ frustrated me too much to suspend disbelief (quantum mechanics could be an explanation).

Lots of repetition so you don’t lose track of which character the chapter is about, which I found annoying as I was paying attention. Perhaps if you listen to the story as a background activity that might be useful. A bit formulaic and predictable for my taste, but then I prefer hard science sci-if with less violence.

Disappointed

Sadly I was disappointed with this book, a poor follow up to The One, and The Passengers both of which I absolutely loved. The plot was too complex and unbelievable, in fact it was downright silly in places, and there was a lack of the twists and turns which I loved so much in the previous books. I felt this was too much of a sci Fi book and not enough of a thriller. Not your usual brilliance John, sorry.
