Summary

He was given another chance at life and from the infinite possibilities available, he chose to come back as a mechanical man, a Metalman, named Repair. Now he has to contend with a research lab full of gnomes who say he owes them for bringing him back from death, a strange city that is going through a magical industrial revolution, and adversaries that want to see him broken into pieces.

Full of action, adventure, and of course crafting, join Repair on his adventure through this strange fantasy world where magic and technology meet. He’ll dive into the city’s dungeon to kill monsters for XP, and gather resources to figure out the solutions to his problems. Because if he doesn’t become more powerful, he’ll not only lose his freedom, but the life of his friend.

Nothing really unique here.

Story seems very tame which is disappointing to what it could be.

The MC is mechanical (Naturally) but barely explores that option.
The MC is a crafter but didn’t even explore any of it within the first hour of the audiobook. Maby it did later? I dropped off around one hour in.

I would say other things but it would spoil the story for someone that may actually like it, but the story is certainly not for me.

I like it.

I bought this book first, cause I was bored and thought "Meh. Why not!"
Even as I bought this book, my mind was half set on returning it.
Now as I have listened to it I don't think I will.
I really liked this book more then I thought I would, with comedy that I knew references to and funny situations.
I am so used to guys, making goblin voices. So I found it both refreshing and interesting to hear a woman make a goblin dialect.

Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Great series

I love this book and can't wait for the next one. It is also great to see that even tho the MC is humanoid he is not human himself. Interesting to see where the author takes us in this new series in a great genre

Amazing.

I have loved this story from the start. I hated having to pause in my listening for any reason, if I could I would of listen in one go but RL kept getting in the way. The characters are amazingly constructed and the story flows and develop well through the story.

I also like the narrator as well and will be looking for my book that he has done as well.

ROLL ON THE NEXT BOOK.

Resurrect as a machine

Standard litrpg resurrect story but instead of the normal human he chooses a metal man, no food or sleep worries. Waking up he finds himself as a possession and starts on a plan to earn some money and pay off his debt.

Meh got extra meh.

The story is very bland. MC jumps around in direction so much you lose investment in the story. Could have been good but an supposed intelligent character decides to live as a barbarian.

Also not sure on the choice of a female VA. MC and most characters are male. She is also very soft spoken so it makes it hard to hear her sometimes.

Meh-

main character seemed wooden (pardon the pun) where there should be drive acts like a passive participant and the world hollow. things got a little better at the end. one good thing is this is the first litrpg that successfully captured different interest levels from different players. the gob was great.

Nope

Just not into the whole "the MC is a good guy so it's excusable to have this level of dumb logic." So he justifies and then congratulates a kid who stole from him so he could afford enough to join a guild of people who's class is LITERALLY scavenges off others' kills while they are busy or overwhelmed. They get exp for it and pretty much make dungeon diving awful. 1. The guild is official, allowed, and openly? Respected. 2. The kid wanted you dead 2 seconds ago and is smarter then most adults. 3. This is played off as cute and acceptable. 5 chapters later and he is still justifying and supporting this kid's idiotic sociopathy.

Please buy this book

I really enjoyed this novel. I have been following Mejia for a while and I consider this to be his breakthrough novel. I am happy to see him come into his own. His earlier work was lacking when it came to the world building and character motivations. Here the world is fully formed and all the characters, not just the MC, had distinct personalities and quirks.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It kept us company through a recent road trip.
Kudos to you Mejia and welcome to my must buy list.

Interesting trip!

Although I am not a “gamer”... never played video games... I enjoyed the creativity of the book. Slow start because LOTS of “gamer” talk, but caught on enough to get the gist of what the jargon was about. Once the story got moving, it was fascinating and very interesting. Reader was good and appreciated the voice changes - easier to follow the characters. Yes, will buy book 2 and follow the saga!

Loved it!!!

Great story and narration!

Repair (an engineer from earth reincarnated into a Metal Man's body in a fantasy world) is figuring out his new life. He is owned by some gnomes at a gnomish collage and working for his freedom and citizenship. On top of all that he has to figure out his new body, class, and what he wants to do with his life without guidance as he is now a member of a lost race! Simple right?

Jill does a fantastic job with the narration - really bringing the story to life!

I loved this book, and can't wait for the next one to come out!

A relevant story considering

This is a clever sort of story in the vein of Aesop stories considering everything that's going on at this time with sex skin color Social status it shows the problems that we are having in a very interesting way and is something that everyone should read

ehh

the main characters logic is to flawed, gets betrayed, feels bad for the person that did it then does everything to save it.

he is practically immortal with stupid illogical decisions. and gives away to much info about him self despite saying otherwise.

Different type of MC

It’s nice to listen to a book where the MC isn’t an overpowered spell sword killing machine. Not that I don’t love those as well. Great feeling of tension in that the MC could lose at any time. Narration was pretty good, she could work on her pauses to give a better feel and flow but it doesn’t take away from the story.
