About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Lydia, Robyn and Dean don't know each other - yet.

They live very different lives, but each of them, independently, has always felt that something is missing.

What they don't know is that a letter is about to arrive that will turn their lives upside down.

It is a letter containing a secret - one that will bind them together, and show them what love and family and friendship really mean....

...despite not actually claiming to be a suspense novel. The suspense is built around the anticipated coming together of 4 completely separate domestic/family stories - stories of 4 separate people. Beautifully crafted, plenty of emotion. There's even the possibility of a murder at one point. Plenty of cliff hangers at the end of each chapter as we switch to one of the other 4 stories, eventually leading to a very satisfactory ending. I'm a fan of Lisa Jewell, and I'm pleased to say that this latest book is up there with her best.

Reads like a Good Suspense Novel...

I always enjoy Lisa Jewell books
This was quite a departure from the usual storyline but I thoroughly enjoyed this. Quirky and heartwarming- a beautiful written book

Fabulous listen...

The topic was intriguing and the characters believable, with the threads of their lives cleverly interwoven.
Lisa Jewell’s best book yet for me.

Easy listen, but gripping story

I got caught up in the story and some of the spin off themes were interesting perspectives on the core theme. Doesn't take the keep everything light route as there are a number of tragedies referred to. The way they are dealt with is like real life, ie profoundly shaping but part of life that you take with you as you keep going. I did wonder about an alternative approach where the characters who find each other were not beautiful and/or clever. But the story had a balance of a kind. I will look for another Lisa Jewell book to try it out. And will definitely explore for books that Laura Aikman reads. Her range of accents and female / male voices, two in a french accent, were very good.

Engaging listen
