Summary

The phenomenally popular first novel from international Number One best-selling author Trudi Canavan.

Over 3 million Trudi Canavan copies sold worldwide.

Each year the magicians of Imardin gather together to purge the city streets of vagrants, urchins and miscreants. Masters of the disciplines of magic, they know that no one can oppose them. But their protective shield is not as impenetrable as they believe.

Sonea, angry, frustrated and outraged by the treatment of her family and friends, hurls a stone at the shield, putting all her rage behind it. To the amazement of all who bear witness, the stone passes unhindered through the barrier and renders a magician unconscious.

The guild's worst fear has been realised...There is an untrained magician loose on the streets. She must be found before her uncontrolled powers unleash forces that will destroy both her, and the city that is her home.

Good listen

Where does The Magicians' Guild rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was one of the better books I've listened to. I found the narrators voice easy on the ears (whilst ill) and pleasurable to listen to. I got all 3 of the series and have now begun the sequel series.

What did you like best about this story?

The fantasy world has been well created and the characters are all believable.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

There weren't any stand out scenes for me personally.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were lots of highs and lows in this book, the series is an emotional roller coaster.

Any additional comments?

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I have read it before and was a little disappointed that the abridged version misses so much out but if you havent read it previously, you won't even notice.

Top notch performance

What a wonderful performance, would listen to her every day! Shame the book has been cut to pieces.

The trillogy is the best I have read for a while!

This is a great book, though a little slow in setting the scene, it picks up pace. By the time you have read the second book, you cant stop at the end, so have the third one to hand!! Just a great story. I am looking forward to reading more from Ms Canavan.

Such a pity

I personally love the story that is butchered here in my opinion there is no point to an abridged version of a story on audiobook.

long time coming

i bought the physical book so long ago (like 10 years maybe more) and never got around to reading it completely. the story was enjoyable and it built a good image of where this world can go. based on this book, its likely ill check the others in series.

I just loved it.

A book from my childhood, and I just loved listening to it throughout.

The narrator was clear and effective in her delivery, perhaps not my desired tone for some of the characters, but that’s just a personal view.

10/10

Check who the narrator is first.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I should have checked who the narrator was first before purchasing. I prefer the Richard Aspel version.

Any additional comments?

Nice start to the trilogy. not too short or too long.

Plot was too predictably

The story line had so much more potential to develop characters and I lost interest in their plight as I couldn't form an emotional connection. I found myself thinking of so many sub plots and back stories that could add depth and meaning. Hopefully second will be better. Oh and I found the narrator annoying as most characters sound like girls. This combined with the lacking depth made it a slog to listen.

Excellent!

I really enjoy fantasy books and this series (of which this story is the first of three) is my favorate. This story is good, the second (The Apprentice) is better and the last (The High Lord) is fantastic!

I really enjoyed the reading of the book in this audio and can't wait for the rest of the series to be released.

Could have been better

Wonderful story, if only the entirety of the book was actually narrated. Lots of arts missing.
